SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, Aug. 17 (EUROPA PRESS) –
The General Directorate of Emergencies of the Government of the Canary Islands has issued an evacuation order this Thursday morning in several other areas of the municipality of El Rosario, as well as La Orotava before the advance of the forest fire declared on Mount Arafo (Tenerife ) on the night of August 15, as reported by 112 in the Canary Islands.
Specifically, in El Rosario, they have evacuated from Vista La Huerta street, Preventorio street to Escuela Hogar (TF-274), as well as Los Panascos Bajos road to Juan Antonio Díaz street, Las Rosas street, as well as Doctor Caldera street to the General Highway TF-24, all in the population center of La Esperanza. To these evacuations is added the one already carried out in the neighborhood of Las Barreras.
For its part, in La Orotava the eviction has occurred since the descent of the Teide Restaurant drinking trough to La Florida.
The forest fire declared in the mountain area in Arafo was “out of control” at dawn this Thursday after an active day, during which time it has burned more than 1,800 hectares in a perimeter of about 22 kilometers that mainly affects to the municipalities of Arafo and Candelaria, as well as to La Victoria de Acentejo, Santa Úrsula, La Orotava and El Rosario, in the latter case with a possible impact on material goods.
The shelters set up for evicted people who need it are located in the Punta Larga pavilion (Rambla de los Menceyes), in the municipality of Candelaria, and in the Andrés Orozco School, in Arafo.
Several sections of the TF-24 and TF-523 highways are currently closed.
To try to stop the fire there are some 258 troops and for this Thursday it is expected that 17 aerial means will be active -including three seaplanes-, one of them for coordination.
