TENERIFE, Aug. 17 (EUROPA PRESS) –
The General Directorate of Emergencies of the Government of the Canary Islands has issued an evacuation order in the neighborhood of Las Barreras, municipality of El Rosario, due to the lack of control of the Arafo fire (Tenerife) that also affects other neighboring municipalities.
As reported by 112 de Canarias, people who need accommodation should go to the Andrés Orozco school, in Arafo (Calle Magallón), which has been set up as a hostel.
The forest fire declared in the Arafo mountain area is “out of control” when it has been active for almost a day, during which time it has burned more than 1,800 hectares in a perimeter of about 22 kilometers that mainly affects the municipalities de Arafo and Candelaria, although it also affects La Victoria de Acentejo, Santa Úrsula and La Orotava.
In total, there are 150 evicted people, although four are in the authorized shelters, two in the Punta Larga pavilion (Rambla de los Menceyes) in the municipality of Candelaria and another two in the Andrés Orozco School, in Arafo, already Most of the people have relocated to relatives’ houses.
Several sections of the TF-24 and TF-523 highway are currently blocked, and more evictions during the night are not ruled out.
To try to stop the fire there are some 258 troops and for this Thursday it is expected that 17 aerial means will be active -including three seaplanes-, one of them for coordination.
