SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, Aug. 16 (EUROPA PRESS) –
The General Directorate of Emergencies of the Government of the Canary Islands, based on the information available and in application of Decree 60/2014, of May 29, which approves the Special Plan for Civil Protection and Emergency Attention for Forest Fires of the The Autonomous Community of the Canary Islands (INFOCA), has declared a level 2 emergency situation for the municipality of Arafo (Tenerife) where a forest fire was declared late this Tuesday night.
The forest fire, as reported by the Canarian Government, broke out in the Arafo mountains starting at 11:36 p.m. on August 15, on the TF-523, and affects the municipalities of Arafo and Candelaria.
The decision to raise it to level 2 of emergencies, they clarify, has been adopted due to the “dimensions and dynamics” of the fire, as well as in response to the request issued by the Cabildo de Tenerife.
Currently, and preventively, the areas of Arrate, Chivisaya, Media Montaña and Ajafona have been evacuated, as well as the closure of the TF-24 highways, between Las Lagunetas and El Portillo, and the TF -523, Los Loros Highway.
At this time, land resources from the Cabildo de Tenerife, members of the Consortium of Firefighters and volunteer firefighters from Güímar and La Laguna are involved, and it is expected that during the morning different air resources from the Government of the Canary Islands and the central government will join the extinction tasks.
