Moving the Planet, in collaboration with the Arona City Council, Kontraola Surf and Kikazaru 360, has carried out a Moving Chain today in the Tenerife municipality of Arona. The Moving Chain is an initiative that consists of a garbage collection by areas throughout Spain. On this occasion, the group toured part of the Arona coast, characterized by its beaches and its great tourist importance.

Active and Committed Participation

More than 30 people, including families, athletes and nature lovers, participated in this solidarity challenge. And also, we have the participation of Mrs. Fátima Lemes, Mayor of the town, Mrs. Clara María Pérez, First Deputy Mayor and Councilor for the Environment, Sustainability and Public Services, and Mrs. Dácil María León, Second Deputy Mayor and Councilor of the area Government of Tourism and Economic Promotion, Primary Sector and Employment. Without forgetting several members of the Kontraola Surf team.

The journey took place along the Paseo, C. Francisco Andrade Fumero, in Playa de las Américas. In total, more than 30 garbage bags were collected, mainly made up of bags, cigarette butts, food and a lot of other waste. At the end of the collection, a brief Jungle Move training session was held at Playa de las Américas, a training system based on animal movement that, like Moving the Planet, promotes solidarity, sustainability and movement. To conclude an unforgettable day, Kontraola’s colleagues took an initiation class to surfing. The little ones enjoyed themselves like never before, discovering a unique, fun and sustainable sport.

Statement by the Mayor, Ms. Fátima Lemes:

“The importance of initiatives like this cannot be underestimated. Taking care of our planet is a shared responsibility, and working together, both City Halls and private companies, is vital to achieve a cleaner world.”

Statement by Becky González, Project Manager at Moving the Planet:

“I want to thank the City Council, and especially the Mayor, Mrs. Fátima Lemes, Kontraola Surf, Samuel, one of the Moving the Planet volunteers, and all the supportive people who accompanied us today. Together, we are trying to make a change, for the planet and our landscapes. Every little effort counts, and I’m excited about what we’ve accomplished today.”

About Moving the Planet:

Moving the Planet is an organization committed to promoting sustainability, solidarity and sport. Through events such as the Moving Chain, it seeks to involve the community in concrete actions to improve our environment and promote an active and healthy life.
