There is a whole culture of tourism that approaches abandoned enclaves, many of them considered mysterious, although sometimes it is only because of that state of abandonment, traveling through a good part of the planet. There is abandoned places in Tenerife who are considered of the most relevant nationally and even internationally.

Many of these abandoned places, be they in Tenerife or not, they are impossible to visit. Its state of deterioration is such that it is dangerous for the integrity of people, so traveling through them is prohibited. It also happens with some of this list that, in the same way, can be observed or photographed without problem from the outside.

The 7 abandoned places in Tenerife:

The abandoned building in Tenerife, unique in the world, witness of another time
The abandoned building in Tenerife, unique in the world, witness of another time

Santa Cruz grain silo. Within the lists that are usually made, it is the abandoned building in Tenerife that, perhaps, goes more unnoticed. Possibly, its proximity to the old Santa Cruz de Tenerife Spa It has been one of the reasons why the old grain silo in the capital has been forgotten. But it is unique and, in its day, it had special value for several reasons.

One of the things that attracts the most attention when contemplating these silos is their imposing silhouette, with a storage tower. This lifting tower meant that the cereal did not have to be manually raised to the upper area, which meant a great effort for the workers.

The interior is not visitable.

The address is: Conjunto Sg Puerto, 2, 38180 Santa Cruz de Tenerife

Las Cañadas Sanatorium. The Tuberculosis Sanatorium, in the Cañadas del Teide, It ended up being the destination of the numerous tuberculosis patients who came from different parts of the planet to isolate themselves. It began to be built as a hospital in the thirties of the last century, but it was never finished. And it is that the warm climate of the island was, for national and international doctors, ideal for treating respiratory diseases. Just a few months ago the Cabildo demolished the ‘skeleton’ of the building, with the intention of recovering the natural value of the environment. However, it is worth remembering.

How to visit it? There is a path, the 16th or the path of the Sanatorium, which runs through its ruins.

Abades Leper Colony. We situate ourselves in the dilapidated remains of the Abona sanatorium, an unfinished complex planned for lepers that was located in Abades and that today marks the landscape in a decisive way with its aspect of a ghost town. The setting could not be more evocative, cinematographic, even. Different structures and a church crowned by a gigantic cross.

It was never finished, it never welcomed any sick person; therefore, no one ever languished dying prey to indescribable suffering. Some areas were used to house seasonal Falange camps and others in more recent times as firing ranges by the military. The site has been acquiring enchanted rangemediumship sessions have been held to contact the trapped spirits and even cleansing and liberation ceremonies of such disoriented entities.

Central Antenna (El Médano, Granadilla): What was to become a solar thermal power plant ended up being one of the most striking abandoned places on the Island. There, a few meters from Montaña Pelada, in the El Médano area, remains a gigantic “dish”, just as the neighbors define it, rusty by time that has become a claim for photography lovers.

The opposition of the neighbors managed to ensure that the antenna, projected on protected land, never came into use, leaving, yes, an image of an apocalyptic film.

It is located in the surroundings of La Jaquita beach, arriving at Juan Carlos I avenue and very close to Istanbul street.

The Santa Úrsula bunker. The military bunker located in the La Quinta urbanization, in Saint Ursulais a construction that dates back to 1942, designed by the dictator Francisco Franco to monitor a large part of the northern coast against a possible invasion during the fight between the allies and the axis powers in the framework of World War II and thus face to any type of landing that occurred on the beaches of Puerto de la Cruz.

The Special Plan for the Acentejo Coast Protected Landscape proposes turning it into a great viewpoint, since it offers one of the most spectacular views of the Acentejo Coast, a unique space due to the diversity of the landscape, which is intermingled between the mouths of ravines and cliffs.

Among all the bunkers on the island, it is surely the one that offers the best views.

The House of Aguadulce in Guía de Isora. Less known than the popular Gordejuela but very attractive. Also known as the House of the Embarcadero or Castillo de Aguadulce, it is located on the coast of Guía de Isora, in Playa San Juan and, curiously, it is not known for what purpose it was built, although it is believed that the pier it has, already very deteriorated , was used to unload products arrived in that area of the Island.

Its walk is one of the most attractive that can be carried out in Tenerife, being able to see the entire coast and reaching the exact location.

Igueste de San Andrés traffic light. He Igueste de San Andrés traffic lightthe only facility of its kind in the Canary Islands, It was of vital importance in past times to guide the ships that sailed off the coast of Tenerife. Inaugurated between 1880 and 1895, it was in operation until 1971.

The construction is located on a cliff over 200 meters high, near the Igueste de San Andrés farmhouse, in the heart of the Anaga massif. Although the Semáforo, as it is seen today, was built with the mission of notifying the arrival of ships at the port of Santa Cruz, that same enclave was previously used as a sighting tower for the defense of the island.
