He return of the Grand Prix has driven members of all generations crazy. Everyone nostalgically remembers those summer nights led by the mythical presenter Ramon Garcia together with representatives of numerous towns and localities of the Spanish territory. Although with several changes and adaptations to the current context, the Grand Prix maintains its essence: to amuse all the members of the house.

It remained on Spanish Television every year for eleven seasons. Hundreds of towns accompanied millions of Spaniards who watched them compete from their screens. And some of those towns were Canaries, of course. So we formulate a question to make memory work. Do you remember all the Canary Islands towns that have tried their luck through all the seasons in the Grand Prix?

Haría (Lanzarote)

The program that would soon win the hearts of several generations began his adventure in 1995. In that first season, the inhabitants of Haría were part of the participants among a total of 27 locations. The format adopted in this edition was more extensive than the format used years later, presenting confrontations between four towns in each episode. Those from Haría had an impressive debut and managed to advance to the semifinals, counting on Los del Río as their sponsors.

With they continued to reach the grand final although they did not win, they were left with an experience to remember and with the honor of having been the first canaries to participate in the Grand Prix.

El Sauzal (Tenerife)

The year after Haría, in 1996, it was the turn of El Sauzal. This town from Tenerife competed with a somewhat different format and would be eliminated before the final although they managed to tie on points with the one who did manage to reach it.

As a curiosity, the politician Paulino Rivero, at that time mayor of the town, carried out the famous test of “The hot potato”.

Pajara (Fuerteventura)

In 1997 the representatives of Pájara they came very close to the prize but ended up falling in the grand final. They have been one of the best Canarian towns to participate in the program.

Firgas (Gran Canaria)

Firgas was the first town in Gran Canaria to compete in the Grand Prix and they did so in the fourth season of the format, in 1998. Already with a more recognizable format, in which only two towns per program participated, they ended up falling at the first opportunity.

Agache (Tenerife)

Already in 2001 this Tenerife town tried to make Grand Prix history. They managed to beat their rival although by getting few points they could not qualify for the grand final, whichBeing eliminated even winning their direct confrontation.

Antigua (Fuerteventura)

The representatives from Antigua arrived in 2003 with the aim of unseat their neighbors from Pájara, who had held a magnificent contest years ago. However, Not only did they not achieve this, but they took home the fewest points of any Canarian town in the program: five.

Buenavista del Norte (Tenerife)

This town in Tenerife has been to date the last to represent the Canary Islands in the program. He did it in 2005 also with little luck. They ended up eliminated at the first exchange.

After giving laughter and joy through a healthy and fun competition, the Grand Prix would close its doors in 2009 when it was cancelled, although in its last years it was no longer broadcast on TVE but on FORTA. However, the new edition that has just been released could give other Canarian towns new opportunities.
