The Cabildo de Tenerife has released to public information the project for the execution of the Bus-HOV lane (High Occupancy Vehicles) through ITS (Intelligent Transport Systems) technology with the necessary infrastructure to allow the exclusive use of the left lane during peak hours of in the morning (from 7:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m.) for vehicles such as buses, taxis, motorcycles and high-occupancy vehicles (those that transport two or more people), establishing a reduced number of embarkation and disembarkation points. The execution period for the work is 12 months and the budget amounts to approximately 21.8 million euros. The project will be in public information for a period of 20 business days.

The Minister of Mobility, Eulalia García, indicates that the objective of the aforementioned infrastructure is “to relieve traffic congestion and, therefore, improve citizen mobility in the TF-1 corridor between Güímar and Santa Cruz. The Bus-Vao lane will increase its capacity, so the travel times of collective transport users in buses and in vehicles occupied by two or more people will be reduced”.

The length of this lane will be 18.6 km in the Santa Cruz de Tenerife-Güímar section from PK 1+400 to 20+000, in the Santa Cruz de Tenerife direction and will be managed based on ITS systems, lane beaconing with light beacons and eventual horizontal signage, variable messaging panel (PMV), installation of cameras and detection system for vehicle capacity. This system will allow the collection of data and information with a view to improving traffic efficiency. In addition, some other actions are contemplated, such as the improvement of the link that connects the TF-1 with Mercatenerife or the expansion of the road of the TF-1 after its fork with the TF-4, among others.

lane cuts

On the other hand, the Cabildo has reported that it will carry out next Monday, August 7, conditioning and stabilization works on the slope located at PK 0+700 of the TF-523 in the municipality of Arafo. The works will consist of cleaning, clearing and clearing of the slope and the subsequent projection of a layer of concrete reinforced with fibers and steel mesh.

Due to the works, alternative lanes are expected to be cut, establishing alternative traffic regulated by signalers or traffic lights in the other lane. The works will last for three months.
