SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, Aug. 1 (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Chamber of Commerce of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, after the situation of zero energy produced on the island of La Gomera, has called for the “urgent need” to update the electrical production equipment throughout the Archipelago.

The Chamber expresses its support and support for the request announced by the Cabildo de La Gomera to modify Law 17/2013, which includes the guarantee of supply in the insular electrical systems, and which will be transferred to the Parliament of the Canary Islands and to the Cortes Generals in Madrid.

This was stated by the chamber’s president, Santiago Sesé, who regretted that systems are still active that in some cases are almost four decades old -when their useful life is just over half- and that “still today has opted for an energy model that contemplates transition energies towards a renewable system that, in any case, would serve to modernize the equipment, avoiding these continuous failures that we have been seeing over the years and that cause such serious consequences”.

In addition to the not a few damages that a situation of zero energy causes to the general population, the Chamber also highlights the damage caused to the business fabric, “with bars and restaurants that cannot offer their services normally, businesses that They don’t have lighting or payment services, or tourists whose vacations are not only ruined, but also the public image of the Island is damaged.”

The Chamber Corporation, therefore, makes a call to “create a common front and work together on a Canarian energy model that is capable of responding to the needs of the Archipelago, jointly drawing a medium- and long-term roadmap that also respect the principles contemplated in the SDGs and the Canary Islands Agenda 2030”, asserts Sesé.
