SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, July 31 (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Government of the Canary Islands, through the Ministry of Ecological Transition and Energy, has opened an information file reserved for Endesa to study the causes that have given rise to zero energy in La Gomera due to a fire that occurred at the El Palmar, in San Sebastián, and which has affected a total of 15,313 customers.

This was announced by the president of the Canary Islands, Fernando Clavijo, who has called it “unjustifiable” and “unpresentable” that more than 10,000 homes continue without electricity due to zero energy, while at the same time demanding that the State Government and Endesa, the company electricity supplier on the island, an immediate solution to restore supply to the rest of those affected.

Clavijo stressed that this energy zero is causing “difficulties to make bread, to have a supply, to raise the water and for all those families who may have gone on vacation and have their purchases in the fridge and are going to have to throw it in the trash; we are talking about economic damage that neither the Gomerans nor the Canaries deserve,” he added.

The head of the Canarian Executive indicated that for a long time now it has been warning that the necessary investments are not being carried out to improve the electrical infrastructure and stressed that what happened in La Gomera is “another example of improvisation and the lack of management and commitment” that is causing “serious damage, even reputational, to La Gomera”.

Fernando Clavijo affirmed that the necessary generator sets to restore the supply “are not arriving with the speed and speed that is necessary nor are they starting up”, and criticized that the supply company is talking about Thursday to be able to restore the entire service. For this reason, he warned that the Government is going to be “very forceful” regarding what this incident has caused and demands that an immediate response be given to the island.

According to the latest information from Endesa, a third of the clients affected by the zero energy situation in La Gomera have already recovered their electricity supply and the supply company continues to work to advance in the partial restoration of the El Palmar Power Plant.

At 2:43 a.m. yesterday, Sunday, a fire broke out in these facilities that affected seven of the nine generator sets of the Endesa electricity supply generating plant, which supplies energy to the entire island. This fire caused an energy zero that affects the 15,313 supply points on the island.

Endesa has reported that up to 14 generating sets mobilized to La Gomera from other islands of the archipelago have been connected. Late in the afternoon, the arrival of a 6 MW mini-plant from La Palma is expected, which could be operational within an estimated period of 24 hours after its reception at the El Palmar Power Plant.

More than 100 technicians, internal and from collaborating companies, are working to recover the electricity supply as soon as possible, detailed from Endesa, which asks customers who already have electricity to consume moderately to facilitate total replacement.
