SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, July 30 (EUROPA PRESS) –

The president of the Cabildo de La Gomera, Casimiro Curbelo, has urged Endesa to fully recover the electricity supply on the island after the energy zero that has been registered since 3 in the morning. To do this, he urged the commissioning of the groups that have not been damaged at the El Palmar Power Plant, as well as the rest of the displaced generator sets.

“We are facing an extraordinary situation that affects the entire island territory, with the consequences it has for people’s daily lives, the functioning of public services and, of course, the island economy,” he explained.

Casimiro Curbelo requested that Endesa provide details of the reasons for the fire at the El Palmar Power Plant, as well as determine whether the current generation system is capable of withstanding the peak demand in the network. In this sense, he clarified that although there is a will from the supplying company to improve the services provided on the island, “there could be regulatory difficulties that limit this objective, a situation that must be reversed immediately.”

Thus, he announced that the island council urges the supply company to determine the losses caused during the duration of the cut and assume the consequences that it is having on all services but, in a singular way, in homes and companies of the island. “It will be necessary to open a space for analysis with the public administrations and the company to determine how to address the impact that this situation is having,” he asserted.

ELECTRICAL INTERCONNECTION AND WIND TURBINES

Curbelo clarified that with the electrical interconnection with Tenerife that is currently underway “the impact of an incident like this would be much less.” For this reason, he valued the performance and appealed to reduce execution and start-up times. “It is more than necessary that our electrical system be connected to that of the neighboring island, because we gain in security and response capacity,” he added.

Regarding the functionality of the wind farms, he did not hesitate to claim the role they are playing in terms of the implementation of renewable energies, and qualified that in order to be able to inject their energy into the network “the distribution system of the El Palmar Power Plant so that there is the necessary voltage to allow the use of that energy, something that makes the fire that occurred impossible”.
