SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, July 29 (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Government of the Canary Islands, through the General Directorate of Security and Emergencies, has declared a situation of alert due to the risk of forest fires in El Hierro, La Palma, La Gomera, Tenerife and Gran Canaria starting at 08:00 this Sunday , July 30. This decision is made taking into account the information available and in application of the Special Plan for Civil Protection and Emergency Attention due to Forest Fires of the Autonomous Community of the Canary Islands (INFOCA).

Specifically, the alert situation will affect Tenerife, El Hierro, La Gomera and La Palma, except for the area affected by the Puntagorda fire in an emergency situation. Also to Gran Canaria, except for the area affected by the Cortijo de Huertas fire in an emergency situation, from elevation 400 above sea level

Starting tomorrow, a dry and warm environment is expected associated with the entry of a Saharan air mass that will cause an increase in maximum temperatures above 30 degrees. Likewise, the wind will be moderate from the northeast in the lower layers and from the southwest component in the upper layers of the atmosphere. At levels below 300-500 meters the trade wind regime will continue. The relative humidity above the inversion base will drop to below 30%.

The population is urged to follow the self-protection advice of the General Directorate of Security and Emergencies.
