CC denounces the mayor’s salary increase and “salary discrimination”

Canarian Coalition in La Victoria de Acentejo denounces “the salary increase of the mayor”, the socialist Juan Antonio García Abreu, and laments “the wage discrimination between men and women” within the local government of the PSOE.

The nationalists criticize that the councilor raises his salaries by more than 7,000 euros a year and warns of the difference in salaries between them. “It is very curious that when the first deputy mayor was a woman, she received 30,000 euros, but both the mayor, when she was the first deputy mayor, and the current one, receive 37,000 euros. Inequality is horrifying,” denounces CC

The rise in the emoluments of García Abreu was approved last Tuesday in the municipal plenary session. The socialist mayor has raised his salary by 7,780 euros per year, from 44,000 to 51,780.

For the Canary Islands Coalition of La Victoria, it is “unfortunate and surprising”, in addition to the mayor’s salary increase, “the salary differences that exist between PSOE councilors in local government.”

In this sense, the nationalists explain that “the one who was their first deputy mayor, María Yurena Gutiérrez gonzalez,. who now becomes the second, maintains his salary of 30,000 euros a year; however, the third on the list for the lessons of the 28MJosé Daniel Izquierdo Barroso, becomes first deputy mayor in this new 2023-2027 mandate and rises from 30,000 to 37,000 euros per year ».

They emphasize this idea: «It is very curious that when the first deputy mayor was a woman, she received 30,000 euros, but both the mayor, when he held that position, and the one who currently does, receive 37,000 euros. That has no other name than inequality and the wage gap.

In this sense, the nationalists assure that “the two councilors released at 75% will charge 1,000 euros more than in the previous term. There will be two councilors with delegated areas, but without release, who will receive allowances for attending plenary sessions and another two who will be released at 40%.

“The data is there and it will be the residents of La Victoria themselves who draw their own conclusions from these obvious discriminations between the members of the local PSOE government”, underline the nationalists of the northern municipality

They do not forget from the local political group of the Canarian Coalition to reiterate again to conclude that “the mayor of La Victoria himself is the one who raises his salary by more than 7,000 euros a year.”
