Bottles, boxes and bags: dirt reigns in the parking lot of Hospital del Norte
The place should be an example of cleanliness and yet waste of all kinds accumulates there. GIVES

The Hospital del Norte car park, located in the Buen Paso neighborhood, in Icod de los Vinos, is a landfill where nothing is missing: masks of all sizes and colors, food cartons, containers, cans, cigarette butts , dog droppings, boxes with disused clothes and abandoned animals, used handkerchiefs, a broken part of a car and the cat’s tail that has already taken over much of the road and squares. An invasion impossible to understand with the initiatives that are launched from the Cabildo de Tenerife to try to eradicate this invasive species in coordination with the municipalities.

Beyond the state of abandonment and the painful image it gives, the place that should be an example of cleanliness -especially in times of pandemic- because it is attached to the Social Health Center, where a hundred people reside, and the Hospital CAE del Norte, it is unhealthy, neglected and dirty despite the fact that it is located next to two enclosures that ensure the health of citizens.

The problem is not new, it dates back several years, and yet the administrations do not agree to solve it once and for all.

It is a constant complaint from the public and to which the mayor of Ica, Francis González, agrees with him and that is why he assures that he only demands what the neighbors demand of him: “clean parking lots and in the conditions that we all deserve” .

“The ownership of the space belongs to the Cabildo and it is not cleaning it,” emphasizes González, who since the previous mandate has shown his willingness “to collaborate with the health and cleaning of the site and the environment, but for this it is necessary to establish bases with the Insular Corporation in the event that this administration does not have the means to do so ”, and assures that this has been transferred to those responsible.

When he did not get a response, at the end of July this year he made a video that he posted on his Facebook profile #francisicod to denounce this situation “because he had no choice”. Thus, “they came to clean something on the access road, which is still insular, but there it remains,” he says.

The mayor acknowledges that the car park is in “unacceptable” conditions and once again is made available to the Cabildo in the event that it does not have the means to undertake this task. But he insists that this must be done on the basis of a collaboration agreement. “I’m not saying that the parking lot is put into service, that’s another matter,” he says. “At the moment it is open and people can park, I mean cleaning,” he clarifies.

From the Cabildo de Tenerife they have declined to make statements on this matter.
