Works on the San Andrés bridge. / TC

The works to rehabilitate the San Andrés bridge follow the planned schedule, according to reports from the Santa Cruz City Council. Thus, from next Monday, the infrastructure will be completely closed, which until now allowed pedestrians to pass. ”According to the planning of the work, as of Monday, October 18, it will be necessary to close pedestrian traffic to the public. ”Confirmed the Councilor for Infrastructure, Dámaso Arteaga. The mayor pointed out that, “the deviation for pedestrians will be made through the pedestrian walkway that exists downstream, since pedestrian traffic is not authorized through the military bridge.”

As detailed by Arteaga, “the maximum duration of the closure is estimated at two weeks, during which time the placement of the exterior fascia, the upper slab reinforcement, the placement of drainage gutters, and the concreting of the upper slab is expected.”

Although in the meetings with the neighbors it was advanced that the rehabilitation of the bridge would be completed in October, the date that was given as most likely was November, and given the pace of the work, it seems that it will be comply with this time schedule.

As for the military bridge, it will continue to serve as long as necessary, so it is possible that, once the work is finished, and while the first tests are being carried out with the load to be supported, they will have to remain open to the traffic. A point east, where it has already been advanced that the second bridge requested by the neighbors will be built, and that will mean occupying, temporarily, part of the Valley of the Huertas.

Castle of San Andrés

The town of San Andrés will be affected today by new traffic cuts, which this time have nothing to do with the bridge, but with the Castillo de San Andrés. As announced by the City Council, today there will be traffic cuts on Avenida Marítima between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m., and during working time there will be signals and traffic lights for the proper functioning of traffic. These cuts are due to the testing of the Castillo de San Andrés rehabilitation project.

As indicated by the Infrastructure area, these works correspond to the realization of field studies, specifically a geotechnical analysis, in which tastings and measurements will be carried out in the surroundings of the Castillo de San Andrés.

The winning project of the ideas competition to value the Tower proposes the installation of a low-height platform as an element of the room, which will allow to contemplate the Castle of San Andrés, as well as an interpretation center that evokes the geometric figures recreating the forms , and dimensions of the original rooms of the Towers. All this, accompanied by wooded vegetation and elements of energy sufficiency. The drafting of the project has a cost of more than 600,000 euros, and the execution of the work will exceed one million.
