SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, July 25 (EUROPA PRESS) –

The National Police held an informative and cooperation meeting with 19 representatives of the accredited Consular Corps in the province of Tenerife on July 19 at the Provincial Police Station of Santa Cruz de Tenerife to channel cooperation and assistance to tourists scammed in the south of Tenerife.

At that meeting, chaired by the provincial commissioner, the representatives of the Consular Corps of Italy, Russia, Finland, Germany, Austria, France, Belgium, Ireland, the United Kingdom, Norway, Mexico, Honduras, Venezuela, Argentina, Ecuador, Hungary, Denmark, Guatemala and the Dominican Republic were informed of the result of said police operation.

The agents dismantled a criminal organization based in the south of Tenerife, dedicated to committing scams against elderly European tourists, using a complex network of small stores selling technology items for this purpose.

In total, 33 people were arrested for the alleged authorship of the crimes of criminal organization, money laundering and fraud. During the operation, more than 700,000 euros in cash were seized and a capital of more than 900,000 euros was blocked distributed in more than 300 bank accounts and 42 real estate properties.

The agents, during the briefing, stressed to the consular representatives the importance of notifying the citizens of their respective countries that the National Police, through the email account sctenerife.bppjudef@policia.es, has set up a channel of help and advice to the victims of the scams investigated within the framework of this operation. The agents themselves will assist them and inform them on how to proceed depending on the specific situation of each one of them.

Currently, the investigators have evidence of a number of complaints that are much lower than the real one. Thanks to this initiative, a significant number of criminal acts that remain in the black crime figure could be clarified and the victims opt to have the economic damage caused to them be repaired.
