A man has accepted this Tuesday the sentence of six years in jail and pay more than 69,000 euros to the man who tore off the ear from a bite, in addition to 1,300 euros to the wife of the victim, who also suffered damage when trying to mediate. The event occurred during a fight in 2022 in the town of Las Galletas (Tenerife).
The defendant, who has been in prison since the events occurred, must also remain 300 meters away from the victim for eight years after his release from prison. Likewise, he will have to bear the costs of the trial for being responsible for an aggravated injury crime.
The events took place around half past one in the morning on February 27, 2022 in a discussion for work reasons in a bar. It was outside the premises when the accused pounced on the victim, punching him in the face.
However, the seriousness of the situation occurred when he bit his left ear off while repeatedly thrusting a screwdriver into his back.
At that moment, the wife of the victim tried to mediate the fight, but the condemned man punched her in the face and the woman was left unconscious.
As a result of the attack, the victim had to amputate three quarters of the left auricular pavilion, keeping only the lobe and a one and a half centimeter long wound between the ear and the nose. On his back, he had 14 lesions focused on the left side, while one of them was 30 centimeters long.
The assaulted required medical and surgical treatment after the first assistance. However, there is no possibility of repairing cosmetic damage to the ear.
The Prosecutor’s Office initially requested ten years in prison and a 300-meter restraining order for 12 years for the man and, in the case of the woman, a three-month fine with a daily fee of eight euros that was reduced by half to add 360.
Likewise, the Public Ministry also requested compensation for the affected person of 65,000 euros and 280 for his wife for the injuries and sequelae suffered.
In view of the fact that a conformity agreement was reached, the trial in which the victim, his wife, civil guards and an expert were going to intervene as witnesses was not finally held.
