SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, July 14 (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Cabildo de Tenerife has declared a forest fire under control this Friday that has affected some 5.2 hectares of ferns, brambles and heather in the municipality of Los Realejos.

The fire started today around 7:45 am in the Barranco de Los Dornajos area and was considered controlled around 1:15 pm after an intense morning of work.

Two Cabildo helicopters and one from the Government of the Canary Islands, five BRIVAN units, a High Mobility Tactical Vehicle (Vamtac), four Cabildo fire trucks, two Environment agents and an extinction director, as well as a supply truck and two crews from the Tenerife Fire Consortium and a crew of volunteer firefighters.

In addition, there was the collaboration of the National Police, the Canary Islands Police and the Local Police of Los Realejos, collects a note from the Cabildo.

The president of the Cabildo, Rosa Dávila, went first thing in the morning to the Island Emergency Coordination Center (Cecopin) and later to the affected area and highlighted the “quick” action of the Brifor, Firefighters and other entities and people who worked from the first hour to prevent the fire from spreading.

“It’s a complicated area and, fortunately, we have been able to control it,” he said.

Dávila also indicated that the teams will continue in the area until the fire is extinguished and appealed to the public to take extreme precautions.

“We are on alert for high temperatures and the risk of forest fire and it is necessary to avoid activities that could cause a fire,” he said.

He also noted that an investigation will be opened to determine the causes of the fire.

The Cabildo recalls that the Territorial Insular Emergency Plan (PEIN) is activated preventively and that grade 3 measures are being applied, prohibiting the stay of people in the mountains and cross-country traffic, on trails or forest tracks, on foot or by any means of locomotion, except for the use of easements for the access of their owners to properties and infrastructures.

FORBIDDEN TO MAKE FIRE

Likewise, it is prohibited to make fire in recreational areas, camping areas and campsites, to burn agricultural or forest residues and bonfires.

Work with machinery or tools is also prohibited, as is the use of elements that can generate sparks in agricultural or forest areas, such as brushcutters and welding equipment.

In addition, logging, hunting activities throughout the island, the movement of motor vehicles on the network of forest trails for recreational purposes, as well as sporting events and pilgrimages on tracks and forest trails and off-road are prohibited.

The Cabildo de Tenerife calls on the population to follow the recommendations of the authorities, among which are not to access or remain in the forest areas of the island of Tenerife and to exercise extreme precautions throughout the island territory with any activity that may generating fires –tobacco, use of generators, electrical and pyrotechnic material–.
