SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, July 13 (EUROPA PRESS) –
The Cabildo de Tenerife will bring together five chefs who have 10 Michelin stars on the island to prepare a joint menu at the ‘V Meeting of the Seas Congress’.
The initiative was presented this Thursday by the Vice President and Minister of Tourism, Lope Afonso; the counselor of the Primary Sector, Valentín González; the CEO of Tenerife Tourism, David Pérez, and the general director of Vocento Gastronomía, Benjamín Lana.
The event will take place from July 16 to 19 under the title ‘Conserving’ and at the event the challenges for the conservation of the oceans and seafood for the next decade will be analysed, by leading chefs and scientists.
Lope Afonso highlighted the importance of the tourism-gastronomy pairing “associated with the concept of sustainability” and pointed out that “this gastronomic congress is an opportunity to position Tenerife as a destination associated with great experiences, as well as a benchmark in the international tourism field, providing added value and profitability to our main industry”.
For his part, the Minister of the Primary Sector, Valentín González, vindicated the role that the primary sector has in this event, “which means valuing the local product, and more specifically the fishing industry.”
Benjamín Lana explained that ‘Entre Mares’ “is a congress that allows chefs of great international prestige to contribute, through their work, to raising awareness about the situation of the oceans, also offering the opportunity to connect the primary sector with the tourism sector”.
This idea was influenced by the CEO of Tourism of Tenerife, David Pérez, who assured that “the objective of this initiative is focused on giving Tenerife visibility as a high-quality gastronomic destination, profiling us as a model of success”.
One of the most important events on the program will be the union, for the first time on the island, of five of the most renowned chefs in Spain to cook together.
The appointment will be at the closing dinner of the day on July 17 that will take place on the terrace of the Poseidón Restaurant, at the Iberostar Selection Anthelia Hotel in Costa Adeje.
The chefs already confirmed, Quique Dacosta (Quique Dacosta Restaurant***), Andoni Aduriz (Mugaritz**), Albert Adriá (Enigma*), and Erlantz Gorostiza (MB** The Ritz-Carlton Abama), Nacho Manzano joins (Marichal House**).
The event has a double aspect, the gastronomic and the scientific, which are integrated into its title, ‘Conserving’.
NUTRITIONAL VALUES OF THE SEA
On the one hand, conserving the diversity and biology of the oceans in a year in which regulations as important as the High Seas Treaty have been approved, and, furthermore, conserving the food and nutritional values of what the sea itself gives us. .
During the four days, the congress will bring together other renowned chefs such as Ángel León (Aponiente***), Rui Paula (Casa de Chá da Boa Nova**, Portugal), Lorna Muñoz (Restaurante Travesía, Chiloé, Chile) or Luigi Pomata (Luigi Pomata Restaurant, Cagliari, Sardinia, Italy), as well as fifteen professionals from the island, such as Gorostiza himself, Diego Schattenhofer (1973, Taste) or Braulio Simancas (Silbo Gomero).
In addition, it will have an important representation of scientists linked to the sea, such as Alexandra Cousteau, the third generation of a pioneering family in the defense of the oceans and underwater life, who will also receive the Sartun Prize; Mina Epps, Director of Oceans at the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) and one of the world’s foremost specialists in marine biodiversity and Ralph Chami, former assistant director of the International Monetary Fund and co-founder of Blue Green Futuro and Rebalance Earth, among others.

Despite the fact that the official opening of the congress will be held on Monday, Avenida de Martiánez, in Puerto de la Cruz, will host this Sunday a seafood gastronomic day in which seafood will be the protagonists between 11:30 and 17:30. ç
Local chefs Víctor Suárez (Haydée Restaurant) and Lucas Maes (Zumaque Restaurant) will offer some of their culinary excellence at popular prices.
