Gran Canaria remains on alert for maximum temperatures this Friday

The General Directorate of Security and Emergencies of the Government of the Canary Islands has updated the alerts for maximum temperatures announced for this Friday: Gran Canaria will go from high alert to alert, Tenerife will remain on alert and the rest of the islands will go down to a pre-alert situation.

Temperatures will drop slightly to moderately, although in inland areas they will continue to be high, according to the prediction of the State Meteorological Agency.

It will be possible to reach 37 degrees in the median areas facing west, south and southeast of Gran Canaria and Tenerife, and between 34 and 36 degrees in the median areas and high areas of The iron, La Gomera and The Palmas well as in inland areas facing south of Lanzarote and Fuerteventura.

Also the General Directorate of Security and Emergencies updates the alert situation for coastal phenomena on the islands of El Hierro, La Gomera, as well as the southeast of Tenerife and the Anaga-Agaete and the rest of the coast of the archipelago is on pre-alert.

North or northeast winds of force 8 (62 to 74 km/h) are expected to the north and southwest of El Hierro, south and west of La Gomera, southeast of Tenerife and the Anaga-Agaete channel out to sea. Force 7 north or northeast wind (50 to 61 km/h) in the rest of the archipelago.

The wind alert is also updated in La Gomera and the pre-alert in the rest of the archipelago.

The prediction is for a moderate wind from the northeast, with strong intervals, and locally very strong gusts that could reach 90 km/h on the peaks and east and west slopes of La Gomera and 75 to 80 km/h in high areas, slopes southeast and northwest of El Hierro, La Palma, Tenerife and Gran Canaria, as well as in inland areas in the south of Lanzarote and Fuerteventura.

FORECAST BY ISLANDS FOR THIS FRIDAY:

LANZAROTE

Slightly cloudy or clear. Haze mainly affecting inland areas, subsiding throughout the day. Minimum temperatures without changes and maximum temperatures in slight decrease, although they could still reach 34 ºC in inland and southern areas. Moderate north wind with strong intervals in inland areas, and very strong gusts during the early morning of up to 75 km/h.

FORECAST MINIMUM AND MAXIMUM TEMPERATURES (°C): Arrecife 22 31

Fuerteventura

Slightly cloudy or clear. Haze, mainly affecting inland areas, subsiding throughout the day. Temperatures with some slight decrease slight decrease although the maximum may still exceed 34 ºC in inland and southern areas. Moderate north wind, with strong intervals in the southern interior and south of Jandía, and very strong gusts during the early morning of up to 75 km/h.

FORECAST MINIMUM AND MAXIMUM TEMPERATURES (°C): Puerto del Rosario 23 30

GRAND CANARY

Slightly cloudy or clear, with some average cloudiness in the interior during the morning and some interval of low clouds on the north coast at night. Haze, mainly affecting midlands and high areas, subsiding throughout the day. Temperatures in slight to moderate decrease although still with significantly high values: it may exceed 37 ºC in areas of the summit and in the midlands and southern coasts, in these areas temperatures of up to 34 ºC are expected during the early morning locally. In the rest of the areas, mainly in the midlands, temperatures may exceed 34ºC. Moderate north wind, with strong intervals on summits and southeast and northwest slopes, very strong gusts of up to 80 km/h.

TENERIFE

Slightly cloudy or clear, with some average cloudiness in the interior and some interval of low clouds on the northeast coast at night. Haze, mainly affecting the midlands and peaks, subsiding throughout the day. Temperatures in general with few changes and a slight decrease in the maximum in the extreme northwest, even with significantly high values: they will exceed 37 ºC in the southern midlands, 36 ºC in the southeast of the metropolitan area and northern midlands, and 34 ºC , in a somewhat more generalized way, in the rest of the areas. Moderate northeast wind, with strong intervals in extreme southeast and northwest, and very strong gusts of up to 75 km/h. In high peaks, moderate wind from the north increasing to strong at the end of the day.

FORECAST MINIMUM AND MAXIMUM TEMPERATURES (°C): Santa Cruz de Tenerife 23 32

LA GOMERA

Slightly cloudy or clear, with some average cloudiness in the interior. Haze, mainly affecting midlands and high areas, subsiding throughout the day. Maximum temperatures with slight decreases in inland areas although still with significantly high values: 34 ºC will be reached in the southern half. Moderate northeast wind, with strong intervals in the southern midlands, extreme northwest and eastern slopes, and very strong gusts of up to 90 km/h.

FORECAST MINIMUM AND MAXIMUM TEMPERATURES (°C): San Sebastián de La Gomera 24 30

THE PALM

Slightly cloudy or clear, with some average cloudiness in the interior and intervals of low clouds on the northeast coast at night. Slight haze, mainly affecting the midlands and highlands, subsiding throughout the day. Maximum temperatures with some slight decrease. 34 ºC will still be reached in a generalized way. Moderate northeast wind, with strong intervals in the far northwest and on the southeast slope, and very strong gusts of up to 75 km/h.

FORECAST MINIMUM AND MAXIMUM TEMPERATURES (°C): Santa Cruz de La Palma 23 32

THE IRON

Slightly cloudy or clear, with some average cloudiness in the interior. Haze, mainly affecting midlands and high areas, subsiding throughout the day. Temperatures with some slight decrease in inland areas, still reaching 34 ºC mainly in the middle of the slopes facing west and south. Moderate northeast wind, with strong intervals in extreme southeast and west, and very strong gusts of up to 80 km/h.
