SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, July 11 (EUROPA PRESS) –
The candidate proposed by the regional Chamber to preside over the Government of the Canary Islands, Fernando Clavijo (CC), has proposed during the plenary session of the investiture debate the opening of a new stage in relations with the State Government in which they will demand compliance ” strict” of the Economic and Fiscal Regime (REF) and the Statute of Autonomy.
During his investiture speech, Fernando Clavijo pointed out that in this new stage they will always bet on dialogue and understanding, but warned that they will be and act “firmly” in defense of the historical rights of the Canary Islands.
“We will not allow new reforms through the back door, as has been done in the recent past, nor will the basic principles of the two most important instruments available to us to guarantee democratic life and our social and territorial cohesion be violated”, warned the nationalist candidate.
Thus, he said that the new Government of the Canary Islands will “exhaust” the dialogue and the agreement for the defense of the development of the Statute of Autonomy and for the fulfillment of the REF. “We will dialogue to the limit of reason, and even beyond,” said Clavijo, who, in any case, warned that he is not afraid of conflict and, if necessary, assured that they will go to all political and judicial instances that are within reach so that the Autonomous Community and the Canarian people are respected. “Said remains calm, but firmly,” he stressed.
A NEW FINANCING MODEL.
Fernando Clavijo maintained that after the approval of the reform of the Canary Islands Statute, in 2018, the State Government “has let it die”. For this reason, he advanced that the Government he presides will demand the transfer of the new powers included in the Statute – “without reductions, or interpretations, or delays” – and will demand a new regional financing model that guarantees financial sufficiency for the services basic public (education, health and social services or Dependency) with absolute separation of the resources of the REF.
It will also request the Competition Market Commission to investigate the agreements between airlines for price increases and to analyze possible manipulations that result in abusive prices for residents. And they are going to work to establish a permanent aid system for minors from separated families who do not live in the Canary Islands, but who have one of their parents registered on the islands, and thus be able to maintain family roots.
