SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, July 10 (EUROPA PRESS) –

The head of the list of the PSOE to the Congress for the province of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, Héctor Gómez, has participated in an informative breakfast in Adeje with the tourism sector of Tenerife and the media in which he has valued the progress achieved for the sector and the response to the challenges of the future posed by the socialist program in the region and in which he has promised to “give up the battle so that our land can be heard in Congress”.

On the morning before the first face-to-face between Pedro Sánchez and Alberto Núñez Feijóo, Héctor Gómez emphasized the two positions of the 23J campaign: “the confrontation, by the opposition parties, and the management of the PSOE” .

“The performance of the Government is remarkably high and the data supports it. Spain offers all the guarantees, such as stability and business protection to those who wish to invest here,” he stressed. Gómez does not define himself as “a politician who dedicates himself to criticizing other parties”, but rather “in the face of political attacks from the personal or the management of the public, in the PSOE we opt for the latter, for working to improve the life of the people”.

“We are devoting a huge amount of resources from European funds to the recovery of our country. Breaking those agreements is breaking our commitments with the European Union, as Italy has already done because of denialism,” warned the Minister of Industry, Trade and Tourism.

According to Gómez, “this has been the first legislature in which the opposition has not respected State policies.” And, faced with that, “the PSOE offers three ingredients: leadership, proven management capacity, and a vertebrate country from the administration and companies.”

PROPOSALS AND RESULTS FOR TOURISM

At the breakfast, held at the Hotel Bahía Duque and attended by more than 70 personalities from the tourism sector and public administrations, tourism was the central theme. In the first five months of 2023, the Canary Islands have been the community that has received the second most tourists: 5.9 million and an increase of 3.3% compared to the same period in 2019, before the pandemic.

“But we not only measure success by counting tourists, but we also do it by looking at indicators that measure quality, such as spending or the increase in the length of stays”, Héctor Gómez has indicated.

Total spending in the first five months of 2023 was 8,240 million euros in the Canary Islands, 16% higher than in the same period in 2019. The Canary Islands is also the community with the highest accumulated spending, with 23% of the country’s total.

“Spain is the most competitive country in the world in tourism and the Canary Islands is at the forefront. And we are going to continue betting on excellence in a crucial sector for employment on our islands, a job of increasingly higher quality and with greater social protection” said the minister.

In addition, Gómez has assured that the PSOE will continue promoting a sustainable, digital and quality tourism model. “That is why we have approved three extraordinary calls for Destination Tourism Sustainability Plans, of which the Canary Islands have launched 26, all of them with great transformative potential,” said the candidate, who also highlighted the 1,000 million euros of the Plan Turimpulsa, which the Government has just approved to directly modernize the sector.

Héctor Gómez has recognized the “problem of structural unemployment in the Canary Islands and of training for the tourism sector”. That is why he has highlighted the commitment to Dual Training with 6,000 million euros. In the field of Tourism and Hospitality, 45,294 students enrolled last year. And this specialty accounts for 17% of the students of the entire FP. “The best help in a person’s vital project is to create conditions and platforms for employment,” he said.

THE CANARY ISLANDS, WITH A NATIONAL VOICE

The candidate Héctor Gómez has highlighted the opportunity that the Canary Islands have in terms of internationalization with this Government. “The companies in the Canary Islands are solid, with a lot of potential and the possibilities offered by the African territory are enormous”, he stated, but he also emphasized that, in order to take advantage of them, “a good, reliable and consistent governance structure is needed as the actual”. “I am concerned about the instability that could be generated in Spain if denialist formations reach the government,” he admitted.

As a PSOE candidate, Gómez has promised to “fight up the battle for our land to be heard in Congress. I have always tried to be constructive and move forward as an Autonomous Community; continue to dignify the job market; work for foreign investment in Spain and continue to reach record numbers, such as the almost 10,000 million euros in the first quarter; Put training at the center of the agenda, whose spectrum of change has occurred at great speed; Advance in port and airport infrastructures”.

“The Canary Islands have received the largest amount of resources that the Government of Spain has transferred in our history because that is how Spain advances at the same speed.” As a candidate, the head of the list offers “humility, generosity, kindness, tireless work and a spirit of improvement.”
