The best cycling routes in Tenerife

Tenerife It is a perfect island for outdoor activities. Its good weather and beautiful landscapes make many choose the Tenerife trails to discover a little more about this island. But there are also many options for lovers of cycling.

In fact, there are many professionals in this sport who decide on Tenerife due to its excellent conditions for training. It is common to see groups of competitors training in the Parque Nacional del Teide.

But not only for professionals, the Island also offers itineraries that are suitable for those who wish to take long bike rides and enjoy while practicing the cycle touring.

What is cycle touring?

Does that cycle tourism sound strange to you? Well, we make it clear to you: it is touring by bike. And in Tenerife you have many options for it. From enjoy a natural setting to an urban route. Short or long journeys. End up on a beach or in a secluded chaco or natural pool. Whatever your option, you will be able to enjoy the Tenerife landscapes while riding a bike.

For this, we propose these routes through different points of the Island:

La Orotava – Teide National Park

A essential bike route for those who are specialists in the matter is the circular between the orotava and the Teide National Park, which also runs through La Esperanza, La Laguna, El Sauzal, La Matanza and Santa Úrsula. It is a highly difficult 98-kilometre route that runs along the northern slope of the Island.

However, it is also one of the most spectacular in terms of views. From the Mirador de La Piedra, which is located in the middle of the route, the cyclist will be able to observe a privileged image of Teide, but during the journey you will find other points where you can stop and enjoy the scenery. The maximum altitude reached is 2,302 meters, in the Izaña area, and it can be done in an estimated time of about five hours.

only suitable for the most experienced.

Costa Adeje-Granadilla

Our next option is a circular route that begins and ends in the tourist resort of Costa Adeje, but that makes a tour of the south of the Island that reaches Granadilla. It has a fairly complete layout, with sections that border the coast and others that cross the midlands.

It is a cycle route of about 70 kilometers, designed to do an estimated time of just over three hours. The level of difficulty is low, so it is suitable for cycling lovers.

Santa Cruz

In Santa Cruz of Tenerife You can also go sightseeing by bicycle and enjoy the beautiful landscapes of the chicharrera capital. This proposed route is part of the Avenida Marítima de Santa Cruz and runs through El Bailadero, Pico del Inglés, Las Mercedes, La Cuesta to return to the Spain Square Holy Cross. A circular layout that is one of the favorites of cyclists.

With a length of about 52 kilometers and one medium difficulty, this circuit allows you to pedal along a path parallel to the coast, next to the docks and platforms of the port of the capital. But you will also ascend to the Anaga area, where you can enjoy the magnificent views that this space offers.

These are just some of the options that we propose for you to practice your favorite sport while you get to know Tenerife and delve into the different landscapes provided by each part of the Island.
