SAN SEBASTIÁN DE LA GOMERA, July 6 (EUROPA PRESS) –
A total of fifteen young people belonging to the Functional Diversity Association of La Gomera have prepared and installed 75 wind protectors for the native species used in the revegetation work of the five wind farms that Ecoener has been operating on the island since March.
The young people, who witnessed the inauguration of the renewable energy production plants and recently visited them, have collaborated decisively in the framework of an ambitious program of regeneration and environmental recovery that is being jointly developed by the Cabildo de La Gomera incubator, the Association for the Functional Diversity of La Gomera and Ecoener, in the locations where the wind generation plants are located.
In the tasks, native shrubs have been planted that cover a total area of 21,000 square meters and the species used are, among others, the tedera, the balo and the veroe.
The wind protectors are made by hand by young people in the workshops of their occupational centers using the breeze from the trunk of the banana trees and the preparation consists of cutting the string and separating it into sheets to make the protectors, which are joined by thread obtained from the string itself.
The Functional Diversity Association, created as a non-profit organization in 1984 by the parents of young people with different forms of functional diversity, has as its objective their full social inclusion, collects a note from Ecoener.
The group has two occupational centers with 40 places each in Vallehermoso and San Sebastián de La Gomera and its purpose is to promote education in general, integration and develop all kinds of activities that can facilitate young people’s social inclusion. especially in the professional field.
On the other hand, thirteen students from the IES San Sebastián de La Gomera, who are studying the cycle of renewable energies in their first and second year, visited the Ecoener wind farms where they received explanations about the construction process and were able to examine the inside of a wind turbine.
SOCIAL CONTRIBUTION
Ecoener points out that it promotes an ambitious social contribution program in all the locations where it has projects in operation, both in Spain and internationally and especially in the Canary Islands, the company is immersed in a major environmental recovery effort.
In addition to the revegetation tasks at the wind farms in La Gomera, the renewable energy production complex in San Bartolomé de Tirajana (Gran Canaria) is also noteworthy, where almost 2,000 meters of vegetal barrier have been planted and in which an irrigation system that uses reclaimed water from a nearby treatment plant.
Ecoener also collaborates with various cultural and educational associations in supporting the organization of cultural and recreational events.
Within the commitment to young people and sport, the sponsorships of the Castillo Football Club or the Castillo Basketball Club stand out, promoting the ‘Campus Recre’ program through which, once a week, basketball classes are taught during school hours. playground for children between the ages of 4 and 8.
More than 100 schoolchildren have been able to benefit from this project, the company highlights.
