SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, July 6 (EUROPA PRESS) –

The acting President of the Government of the Canary Islands, Ángel Víctor Torres, has announced this Thursday that the Executive has decided to annul the order of the Ecological Transition Council that allowed the hunting of feral dogs, cats and ferrets until it comes into force on the next 29 September of the Law for the Protection of Animal Rights and Welfare.

In a press conference to give an account of the agreements of the Governing Council, he said that the rule is left “without effect” by unanimous agreement of the entire Government so that it is the new Executive who makes a final decision.

The measure, which was included in the 2023/2024 hunting season, was intended to protect the native species of the islands and guarantee the preservation of the ecological balance, in the case of the giant Canarian lizard, the lisneja, the shrew or the blue finch.
