SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, July 6 (EUROPA PRESS) –
The acting President of the Government of the Canary Islands, Ángel Víctor Torres, said this Thursday that the three earthquakes registered to the west of Gran Canaria, plus the ‘seismic swarm’ on Wednesday in Tenerife, obey the “normality” of some volcanic islands.
In a press conference to give an account of the agreements of the Governing Council, he has recognized that some earthquakes have been felt by the population but, according to the technicians of public organizations, “it is something that happens” frequently in territories of volcanic nature.
He has insisted that the seismic evolution of the islands must be followed “very attentive” but at the same time he has sent a “message of calm” and has insisted that the canaries are “in good hands” with the scientific professionals in the archipelago.
The National Geographic Institute (IGN) has registered three earthquakes early this Thursday in the ocean west of Gran Canaria of magnitudes between 2.9 and 3.9, two of which have been felt in various municipalities on the island.
