SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, July 5 (EUROPA PRESS) –
The General Council of Notaries has presented a monographic number of the Atlantic Magazine of Law, History and Culture that includes -in 850 pages- 200 scientific, legal, historical works and opinion forums on the eruption of the La Palma volcano, accompanied by of photographs by well-known authors.
This monograph, which begins with a few lines of congratulations from SS.MM. los Reyes, contains the scientific, legal, historical collaborations and opinion forums of, among other personalities, Pedro Sánchez, President of the Government; Meritxell Batet, president of the Congress of Deputies; Ángel Víctor Torres, President of the Government of the Canary Islands; o Sofía Puente, General Director of Legal Security and Public Faith; together with councilors, mayors, representatives of the Cabildo, journalists, teachers, jurists, scientists, historians and ordinary citizens.
Directed by Alfonso Cavallé and coordinated by Luis Ortega Abraham, the presentation ceremony, which took place at the Notarial College of Madrid, was attended by Sofía Puente, General Director of Legal Security and Public Faith; Héctor Izquierdo, representative of the High Commissioner for the Reconstruction of the Island of La Palma; José Ángel Martínez Sanchiz, president of the General Council of Notaries; Concepción Pilar Barrio del Olmo, host vice-dean; and Alfonso Cavallé, Francisco Cantos, José Alberto Marín (deans of the Notarial Colleges of the Canary Islands, Valencia and Catalonia, respectively).
Some of the notaries who came at the time to help those affected by the eruption also participated, whose experience has been recorded in this monograph.
Sofía Puente assured that with this magazine “an exemplary and transformative performance for the Spanish Notariat” closes. “Their performance in La Palma was a revolution for the collective. They proved to be capable of doing much more than what was thought. The exercise of the notarial function was added to the exercise of solidarity. I cannot feel more proud to lead a collective of such extraordinary people; how extraordinary was what happened after the volcano; let’s hope that this legacy is not lost,” he said.
Héctor Izquierdo highlighted the work carried out after the eruption: “Different State institutions and administrations have turned to the transversal reconstruction of the island; among all this network of actors, the Ministry of Justice and Notaries stand out. In the planning process, which it will serve to face future tragedies, more than 1,000 acts of notoriety were altruistically carried out. I am very proud that Spain has elite bodies in the Administration, such as notaries, a model that is far above other countries”.
José Ángel Martínez Sanchiz highlighted the involvement of the Ministry of Justice in the agility of the “creation of three temporary notary offices, made up of volunteers in which numerous colleagues participated free of charge who attended to people who had lost everything”. Likewise, he wanted to thank the solidarity and human quality of the islanders, as well as the mayors of El Paso, Los Llanos de Aridane and Tazacorte.
José Alberto Marín revealed that the magazine “will perpetuate the memory and passage of notaries on the island, both from a human and legal point of view. A magnificent work to preserve the memory of a true hell that served to verify the usefulness of the Administration; what the Notaries can be used for, and the solidarity effort of our colleagues”.
Alfonso Cavallé thanked the solidarity of so many with La Palma and of those who collaborated to make this monograph a reality, pointing out that it is a very notarial work, “because -just like the notarial protocols- it will leave a memory for the future of what happened and lived with the volcano”.
Finally, Francisco Cantos expressed his satisfaction because the notaries posted to the Island “realized that we were useful and that we knew the Law, and we were able to provide very imaginative solutions.”
