SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, July 3 (EUROPA PRESS) –

The nationalist Rosa Dávila has become this Monday the first president in the history of the Cabildo de Tenerife after the resignation of Pedro Martín (PSOE) as president, being the candidate from the most voted list, and by virtue of the signed government pact between CC and PP.

Dávila has been invested as president with the 18 votes in favor of the CC and PP without the need for a motion of no confidence and being the only candidate in the running since PSOE, PP and VOX resigned from presenting a candidate — the socialists and VOX abstained in the final vote–.

The new president has commented that it is an “honor” to represent all the people of Tenerife in a “new era” that is opening in the Cabildo, has valued the “cooperation” of Martín in the relief and has defended the “stability, solidity and moderation “of the pact with the PP.

He has commented that they are going to “build bridges” for the benefit of all citizens and has highlighted Afonso’s “generosity” in reaching a joint agreement with which to face the “important challenges” facing the island, which has lost its “leadership ” in recent years. “Recovering that position is and will be one of our challenges”, she commented.

Dávila has also said that policies aimed at well-being and ending poverty will be promoted and he has advanced that the economy will be diversified through innovation and research, and that culture will be a “lever of change and transformation”.

He has highlighted that holding the first female presidency is a “symbol” that “there are no limits” for women and has recalled the figure of Adán Martín as a “visionary leader” who left a “lasting mark” in Tenerife and the Canary Islands — He has also had words of praise for former presidents Ricardo Melchior and Carlos Alonso–.

Regarding tourism, he has indicated that it must be “sustainable” and with a “balanced” distribution of wealth among the entire population, and for this reason, he has promised to work on more sources of renewable energy and a rational use of water.

He has also called for “courage and determination” to improve mobility in Tenerife and expects “active participation” from all political groups and citizens to build “a prosperous, inclusive and sustainable future”.

VOX spokesperson, Ana Salazar, has congratulated Dávila and welcomed him to the new position, offering him support to “improve the quality of life” of citizens.

Lope Afonso, spokesman for the PP and who will be vice president of the Cabildo, has highlighted the “normality” of the session and the good nature of PSOE and VOX that opens the door to a “good understanding” among all the political forces for this mandate.

He has commented that this mandate is “key” to building an island “between all and for all” for which he has offered an “outstretched hand” to the opposition, without hiding the fact that there has been “some uncertainty” after the resignation of Pedro Martín.

AFONSO: THIS AGREEMENT “IS THE BEST” FOR THE ISLAND

Afonso has defended the “coherence” of his party for respecting the government agreement reached with CC and has insisted that “it is the best” to guarantee “stability” on the island, at the same time that he has been “convinced” that the arrival of the PP to the insular government will be “useful”.

Along these lines, he has claimed to do “Tenerfeñismo” and away from any consideration. “Tenerife above all else”, he has added her.

José Miguel Ruano, spokesman for the Nationalist Group, has indicated that the new government faces many “challenges” such as mobility or climate change and from the “mutual trust” of two political parties, which have created a program based “on leadership and team” around Dávila and Alonso.

Pedro Martín (PSOE) has congratulated Dávila on the appointment and has again offered him his availability to guarantee a quick and orderly transition with many issues “in progress”, such as the collection of Next Generation funds, the fire plan, the labor peace on the tram or various lines of grants.

He has said that his group’s opposition will be “forceful but not cainita and without resentment” and has shown his desire for agreements on the island’s major issues and in favor of the general interest of society.
