The Cepsa centers in Canary Islands have adopted the program of cultural transformation of energy called `Full Potential´. Specifically, one of the three lines of action included in the program has been implemented, the one closest to operations. Under the title BRIO (Benefit, Recognition, Innovation and Opportunity), and based on the ‘Lean Manufacturing’ work organization method, encourages creativity and maximizing the added value that each professional brings to the company’s processes.

The BRIO work philosophy has been implemented over the past year both at the Refinery Tenerife as well as in the fuel supply centers for ships owned by the energy company in the ports of Santa Cruz de Tenerife and The Gran Canarian palms. Has supposed an important advance by optimizing the work and systematizing on a day-to-day basis the technical and organizational capacities that the teams possesseliminating everything that does not add value, while the opinion and involvement of the professionals involved in each process become crucial.

One of the keys to BRIO has been involve all teams as much as possible, especially those closest to operationsbecause this closeness to the processes reinforces their ability to identify improvements, as well as turning managers into facilitators.

With high levels of participation, the program has improved team relationships and coordination, provided productivity tools and has established dynamics for the search for continuous improvement. This commitment to training all of its professionals to carry out creative tasks of generating ideas and solving problems is paying off, as a total of 236 improvement initiatives, with an implementation rate of 40 percent to date.

Fundación Cepsa begins its program of visits to the award-winning entities in the latest edition of the Social Value Awards

For José Manuel Fernández-Sabugo, director of Cepsa in the Canary Islands, “This work methodology allows us to focus on creating an environment that, based on a detailed day-to-day analysis, generates continuous improvements. It allows us to have discussion forums to improve our way of thinking, communicating, making decisions and executing them. The time saved by implementing BRIO techniques leaves, in turn, more time available to dedicate to safety, process monitoring and optimization”, says the director.

“Another fundamental element of BRIO’s success has undoubtedly been the so-called change agents, fellow experts in the new work model who have accompanied the different teams, facilitating the implementation and integration of the new ways of working. Definitely, allows us to reinforce one of Cepsa’s main values: Together we create more value”, assures Fernández Sabugo.

Delivery of the `Full Potential´ Awards in the Canary Islands

One of the pillars on which the `Full Potential´ program is based, under which BRIO is protected, is that of recognize staff who contribute to continuous improvement through ideas, attitudes and collaboration between the different areas on a day-to-day basis.

Along these lines, Cepsa has delivered this Thursday in Tenerife the second edition of its `Full Potential Awards´which have brought together 14 company professionals at its facilities in the chicharrera capital, who have received their awards from the Management Committee of the Energy Parks of Cepsa, transferred to the Island for this purpose. ‘Full Potential’ is a backbone of the structure that Cepsa has created to execute its ‘Positive Motion’ transformation strategy.
