SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, June 29 (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Cabildo de Tenerife has announced this Thursday that the island corporation has obtained 5.9 million euros from Next Generation European funds to finance two tourism sustainability plans, one in the Anaga Biosphere Reserve and another in the area of the Isla Baja and the Rural Park of Teno.

The insular president, Pedro Martín, explains in a note that both plans contemplate various strategic lines “related to offsetting the carbon footprint of the tourism sector, improving mobility, digitization, promoting gastronomy, biodiversity and culture, the improvement of roads and trails, as well as research and analysis for the conversion and competitiveness of the destination”.

In his opinion, “the creation of new tourist products based on the natural and cultural values of the destination, together with the development of strategic infrastructures, such as the insular network for bird watching, whose first phase has recently been awarded, will promote sustainable tourism and respectful of our natural heritage”.

Both projects are integrated into the Territorial Sustainability Plan of the Canary Islands, in the extraordinary call for 2022, within the framework of the European Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan.

The plan for the area of Isla Baja and the Rural Park of Teno will have financing of 2,881,397 euros.

The objective is to improve the profitability and competitiveness of this rural destination by strengthening the SMEs and tourism professionals that operate in it, generating employment opportunities, redistributing tourist income and preserving the region’s natural and cultural resources.

Among the actions, the improvement of the trail network of the Teno Rural Park stands out, the placement of equipment for bird watching, the conditioning of the old Teno Lighthouse as a visitor center, the installation of photovoltaic panels and recharging points for electric vehicles, and the promotion of digitization in communication and visitor services through intelligent tourist signage.

Regarding the plan for the Anaga Biosphere Reserve, the investment will be 3,052,819 euros.

HOUSE OF THE ZAMORANO

Among other issues, the adaptation of the Casa de los Zamoranos for use as a tourist office and interpretation center, the modernization of the Cruz del Carmen Visitor Center, the improvement of the trails and paths of the Anaga Biosphere Reserve and the installation of equipment for bird watching.

It is also worth noting the creation of a digitization system to monitor the tourist impact, the drafting of a sustainable mobility plan, as well as an action plan for environmental volunteering so that both visitors and the local population actively participate in the conservation of the natural environment, of the culture of the area and of the economy of its companies.

Regarding the execution period, the actions included in both plans must be completed before March 31, 2026.
