SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, June 25 (EUROPA PRESS) –

Mambisa will record the presentation of his first album, also called ‘Mambisa’, live at the Teatro Leal in La Laguna on Friday, June 30. Tickets for the concert can be purchased both at the box office and on the Teatro Leal website and on the ticket sales platform tickety.

The album, recorded thanks to the public call for the production of musical recording projects convened by the Canarian Institute for Cultural Development, is the result of a musical project born in 2020 and led by the Canarian percussionist Sissi del Castillo. This is the first musical project in the Canary Islands based on root percussion that brings three generations of female artists on stage.

The percussion section directed by Sissi del Castillo is made up of percussionists Marta Rosa, Yanira Hernández, Marisela Acosta and Rubi Alemán. The vocal section is led by Luisa Machado and Yudith Porto and the bailaora Estela del Moral participates in the flamenco and contemporary section of the show with her own choreographies.

Mambisa also has the pianist Ana Belén Salas, who provides the melodic component of the songs, and the strength of the whistler Teresa Padilla from La Gomera. The bassist Alberto Méndez, Naranjita, is an exceptional protagonist at the sound table, from where he plays the bass and at the same time develops his work as the group’s sound technician. Nicolasa (Nico) Delgado will once again accompany Mambisa on stage, where she will sing several songs with deep folkloric roots from the Canary Islands.

The concert on June 30 will be a unique opportunity to see live not only the eight songs that make up the first recording of this musical group, but also to enjoy three songs in rigorous premiere for the first time. All the compositions are Mambisa’s own creation and include isa, malagueña, folías or tango from El Hierro mixed with rumba, bulería or bembé, among many other rhythms and toques.

In fact, on stage you will be able to see a show deeply rooted in the most primary musical expression: percussion, where the fundamental essence of folklore and root music is investigated without losing. It is a journey that begins with the Canarian folk music that this renowned percussionist drank from since her childhood, which she meets and intermingles with popular Cuban, Afro-Cuban and flamenco folklore.

The presentation of the album has also been designed to, once again, pay homage to the masters with whom Del Castillo delved into these musical disciplines -the prestigious percussionists José Pedro Pérez and Alfonso Aldama- and present an investigation of textures, sounds and emotions that drag the public towards an explosion of force and intercultural emotion.

The very name of the project contains that strength and emotion: Mambisa is “a woman and a drum in one”, explains its director and creator. With this name reference is made to the largest of the tumbadoras. It is a serious drum, which in Cuba is called female drums, “since they also symbolize the hips, curves and fertility,” explains Del Castillo.

To carry out this tour, Mambisa has given itself to transmit the strength of the Cuban mambisa and combine it with drums from La Gomera, El Hierro, batá drums, tumbadoras, chácaras, vibraphone, guataca, quijada, cajón and heel, among many other percussion instruments. folkloric, modern and classical.
