Cristina Martínez Doreste, provisional leader of the 2nd Equality Regatta

The crew led by Cristina Martínez Doreste, from the Varadero Maritime Club of Gran Canaria, is the provisional leader of the 2nd Equality Regatta at the end of the first day, held this Saturday in the bay of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria.

Martinez Doreste, with 12 points, take 18 advantage to his immediate followers: the crew of the Real Club Náutico de Tenerife led by Irene Hernández Cebrián.

Only 3 points from Tenerife, the Olympic sailor Mimi González ends this first daypatron saint of the team that represents the Real Club Náutico de Gran Canaria in the competition.

North wind, about 15 knots of intensity, sunny day and few waves have offered the best of pictures for the start of the regatta organized by the Royal Canarian Sailing Federation and which will determine the Canarian representative in the national event.

All teams are made up of 3 female sailors and sail in boats of the Ideal Class 18 provided by the organization. Short sleeves of a maximum of 10 minutes in duration and exchange of boats every two events between the participants to guarantee equal opportunities characterize this competition, which aims to underline the importance of women in the world of sports sailing.

For this Sunday, the second and last day of the regatta, another 6 tests have been scheduled.

All crews represent yacht clubs from the archipelago. Only the Real Club Náutico de Tenerife and the Club Marítimo Varadero de Gran Canaria present two crews each. The other participants are the Club de Mar Radazul, also from the island of Tenerife, and the Real Club Náutico de Gran Canaria, winner of the first edition.

The RCNGC won the gold medal in the 1st Equality Regatta, held in 2022, by a single point difference over the second classified (RCN de Arrecife) and three from the third (team 1 of the Varadero Maritime Club de Gran Canaria), also skippered by the current leader, Cristina Martínez Doreste.
