SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, June 24 (EUROPA PRESS) –

The International Short Film Festival [Tenerife Shorts] concludes its tenth edition this Sunday with Family Shorts, a special for children that offers ten international short films produced in Singapore, South Korea, the Netherlands, Belgium, Switzerland, Russia, Slovenia, the Czech Republic and France. It will also count with the presence of the Korean director Myojung Noh, who will present the world premiere of her short film ‘Rally’ of her.

Starting at 5:00 p.m., Tenerife Shorts will screen its particular ‘end of course party’ in the audiovisual room of Tenerife Espacio de las Artes (TEA): a 69-minute projection, entirely animated without dialogue and specially designed for the most little ones. Structured in a single screening, with six of the ten selected films signed by directors. The special includes the latest in international children’s short films, including four premieres in Spain and a world premiere. In sum, ten recently created films aspire to win the Family Shorts award, which will be decided by the public’s vote.

Thus, the following short films will be screened: ‘Hooba’, by Sem Assink. Dutch animated film that makes its premiere in Spain. Of only two minutes of footage, it was made last year on the following plot: Year 3,000 BC A small group of inhabitants of the Netherlands are fighting against the elements and famine. His endless inability to organize is combined with his impulsiveness and this leads to the construction of mysterious stone dolmens in the Netherlands. And the invention of the ‘Hooba’.

Belgium participates with ‘Jules & Juliette’. Seven minutes are enough for Belgian filmmaker Chantal Petan to weave together this animated story, which premieres in Spain in Tenerife: It’s a beautiful summer day. Jules and Juliette go to the beach. They carry on their heads the boat with which they intend to sail. Of course, Jules is clumsy and doesn’t stop fooling around. The beach is deserted. It is a brilliant day for the two friends, full of laughter and conviviality.

Next up on the screen is the South Korean film ‘The Bridge’. Six-minute short film made this year by South Korean author Sohyun Kim about the following story: Golem opens his eyes on some Pacific cliffs. By accident, it becomes a bridge for the animals that live there to travel between cliffs. ‘The Bridge’ could be seen this year at the Las Palmas de Gran Canaria International Film Festival.

‘A Fish for a Friend’ (A fish for a friend). Nine-minute animated film made in Singapore by Javon Chan in 2021. In this animated piece, which premieres in Spain, Chan draws the story of a boy who wants to share the fish that he and his father caught with a bear that cannot fish nothing alone The father had told his son not to waste his hard-earned food, but the boy continues to feed the little bear fish.

WOMEN DIRECTORS

Six of the ten Family Shorts movies have been made by women. One of them is ‘Mare’, a Swiss short film from last year directed by Giulia Martinelli who, over five minutes, assembles the following animated story: A special family of guardians of the moon lives on a small island and faces the ups and downs of your daily life and the tide.

The Czech-French co-production ‘The Goose’ is a 2023 production directed by Jan Míka that animates, in twelve minutes, the story of a boy who fantasizes about becoming a famous footballer, playing in big stadiums. But first, he has to win a match in a small backyard, against a goose. ‘The Goose’ has been seen in Clermont-Ferrand, Annecy and Oberhausen.

One of the three South Korean films in the show follows: ‘Hitchhiker Traveling the Galaxy’. Five-minute animated piece, premiered in Spain by filmmaker Junhee Lee with the following plot: Sally, a rowdy alien who was fooling around, crashes on Murphy’s planet with a huge explosion. Murphy catches Sally and takes her to her house. There, Sally finds Murphy’s spaceship that could help her get back to her friends.

From Slovenia, Jaka Ivanc contributes ‘Spuffies’, a piece made in 2021 that tells in eleven minutes this curious story about the Spuffies, who really like jujubes. When they have eaten the last of the delicious fruits and hunger is about to strike, they head to the jujube grove, through the dark forest

From the filmmaker Tatiana Kiseleva, ‘My Friend Tiger’ has been selected, a seven-minute animated piece made in 2021 where Kiseleva recreates the experiences of a girl and her friend Tiger who ride a bicycle through the city. They spend all day doing things together and sharing experiences, until one day the city becomes too small for Tigre.

Family Shorts closes with a world premiere: ‘Rally’, by South Korean director Myojung Noh, who will be at TEA to present it as a world premiere. A five-minute animated work where the dinosaur Tyrano, who was playing tennis, only knows Brachi. They tried to play tennis together, but Brachi kept falling down when he tried to hit the ball. Tyrano does his best to prevent Brachi from getting hurt. But the more Tyrano struggles, the less interested Brachi is in playing tennis. Will they become good companions?

At 7:00 p.m. the closing ceremony of the Festival begins, where the winning shorts will be announced and will be viewed again. The short selected to close this tenth edition of Tenerife Shorts is ‘Lake of Fire’, by Neozoon. This eleven-minute documentary will premiere in the Canary Islands and is based on the following synopsis: The fear of death can only be overcome if people believe in a powerful savior; otherwise, eternal damnation in hell awaits them. The documentary collage ‘Lake of Fire’ shows that the dualistic vision and way of life of believers further fuels, in a dangerous way, the ‘hell on earth’ resulting from climate change.
