The recently re-elected mayor of La Laguna, Luis Yeray Gutiérrez, signed yesterday the decree that establishes the distribution of areas of the new municipal government group, as announced by the City Council, made up in a minority of only the 10 councilors of the Socialist Party, five men and five women. This has made it necessary to concentrate the areas, compared to the distribution that existed in the previous term, when there were 14 councilors in the government.

Badel Albelo stands out, who repeats as mayor, as first deputy mayor and in charge of Sports and Citizen Participation; Adolfo Corbés, a new addition, in charge of the Urban Planning Department, or María Leonor Cruz and Francisca Rivero, also new councilors, as heads of the Social Welfare and Finance areas, respectively.

Luis Yeray Gutiérrez considers that “the new local government councilors make up a great human team with management capacity to advance the development of La Laguna.”

“This is a team that combines experience, preparation, the ability to create work groups and initiative when launching new projects, as well as the ability to establish a permanent dialogue with social and neighborhood groups, economic agents and cultural entities. and sports, which is one of the basic lines of this Government”, he emphasized in this regard.

The mayor assured that, “from this very moment, we began to work in front of the different areas to move forward with the great issues that affect our municipality.” Specifically, and in accordance with the Mayor’s decree, Badel Albelo will hold the first tenure of Mayor and will be Councilor for Sports and Citizen Participation, in addition to presiding over the Autonomous Sports Organization.

Cristina Ledesma, who also repeats as mayor in this mandate, will be second deputy mayor and councilor for Citizen Security, and as such will hold the sectoral powers corresponding to Local Police; planning, control and processing; transport and mobility, and Civil Protection.

Ángel Hernández Chinea will be the third deputy mayor and councilor for the Environment and Municipal Services, with responsibility for urban waste; Street lighting; parks and gardens; markets; water supply; beaches and pools; climate change; Anaga Rural Park; air and acoustics; sustainability; pollution control and management; animal health and welfare, and municipal cemeteries.

As the fourth deputy mayor is Adolfo Cordobés, who will direct the Department of Territorial Planning, Works, Infrastructures, Housing and Historical Heritage and will be director of the Urban Planning Management.

Carla Cabrera, another of the repeat councillors, will be the fifth deputy mayor and councilor for the Presidency and Planning, areas that include the general regime and citizen information, human resources, IT and contracting.

Francisca Rivero will hold the sixth tenure of Mayor and will be Councilor for Finance and Economic Services. Its powers include control, auditing, treasury, taxes and other operations related to the management of budgetary resources and income in general; budgets; estate, and heritage.

The seventh tenure of Mayor falls on Dailos González, who will also be councilor for Equality, Culture, Education and Festivals, Education, Youth, Equality and Transversality, and LGBTI. In addition, he will be president of the Autonomous Organization of Musical Activities.

María Leonor Cruz is the eighth deputy mayor, and the councilor in charge of the Social Welfare and Quality of Life area, with competencies in basic social services, accessibility and functional diversity, drug addiction and women.

Lastly, as the ninth deputy mayor and councilor responsible for Tourism, Commerce and the Primary Sector is Leticia Villegas, who will hold the powers in hotels and restaurants; rural, agricultural, livestock and fishing development; promotion and local economic development; employment; company, and the Municipal Consumer Information Office.

minority government

With the distribution of the areas among the councilors, the new Government of La Laguna began in a minority, after the inauguration last Saturday of the socialist mayor, who repeats his mandate, with only the support of the councilors of his party, after failing to forge before from that date the possible pact of the left that was being considered between PSOE, Unidas se puede and Drago Verdes. Luis Yeray Gutiérrez stated that day his intention to start the mandate and management work with this minority government, although he pointed out that, “from there, we will also work with the rest of the formations that are willing to reach a broad consensus of governance. We don’t have any red line, except Vox. What we want is to give stability to this municipality.”
