SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, June 21 (EUROPA PRESS) –
The Cabildo de Tenerife, through the Institute of Social and Socio-Health Care (IASS), has published the bases and the call for the granting of aid to the clubs and associations of the elderly on the island that carry out activities or programs aimed at the promotion and health prevention. The budget allocated to this line is one million euros per year for the years 2023 and 2024.
The acting president of the Cabildo, Pedro Martín, explained that with these grants, included in the Conecta Mayores programme, the aim is to “strengthen the role of clubs and associations for the elderly as meeting and coexistence points that contribute to improving the quality of life of this group through activities aimed at promoting their physical and mental health and their social integration”.
Pedro Martín stressed that through the call, published today Wednesday in the Official Gazette of the Province (BOP), aid will be granted to all clubs and associations for the elderly who submit the application in a timely manner, “with the aim of making participate as many people as possible in the activities that are financed and expand the alternatives that older people have at their disposal to remain active and integrated into the community in which they reside”.
For her part, the acting counselor for Social Action and president of the IASS, Marián Franquet, pointed out that with this line of aid “the associations will be able to finance workshops or activities that promote autonomy and the maintenance and improvement of the capacities of the elderly , so that they can continue living in their usual environment with the highest quality of life possible. Likewise, leisure and free time activities that are carried out in an active and therapeutic way can be promoted”.
Among the eligible activities there is also the realization of computer workshops in order to bring the elderly closer to new technologies and the way in which they can use them in their day to day, in addition to other activities that promote culture, avoid isolation and favor intergenerational relations, their effective participation in society.
Applicant entities must have been registered as an association for the elderly for at least one year, have more than 25 partners or members and carry out activities in a real and effective way. Each club or association may request a maximum aid of 6,000 euros per year. The deadline for submitting applications will remain open from the day after the publication of the call in the Official Gazette of the Province of Santa Cruz (BOP) until November 15.

In addition, from the Insular Office for the Elderly of Tenerife, open in La Laguna, support will be provided to the associations when completing and submitting the application.
