SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, June 20 (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Chamber Hall of the Auditorium of the Cabildo de Tenerife hosted on Monday night the act of awarding honorary distinctions from the island to the doctor in Art History and musicologist Rosario Álvarez Martínez, to the jurist, writer and researcher Nelson Díaz Frías, to the lawyer and politician María Dolores Pelayo, and to the Accredited Consular Corps in Santa Cruz de Tenerife.

In addition, the title of Favorite Son was granted to Alonso Fernández del Castillo y Machado for the work he carried out in the position of general secretary of the island corporation.

The ceremony was attended by the acting president of the Cabildo de Tenerife, Pedro Martín, who highlighted the important contribution, merits and services for the benefit of the island that all the people and the organization receiving these distinctions have made, deserving them of the gratitude and recognition of the institutions and citizens of Tenerife.

About the distinguished people and entities, the plenary agreements for the granting of honors highlight their personal and professional trajectory that have made them deserving of the distinctions, collects a note from the Cabildo.

In relation to the distinction granted to Rosario Álvarez Martínez, her work in the field of culture and music in the Canary Islands was highlighted, in the fields of historical research, teaching, scientific dissemination and cultural management, which has made her become an essential figure of the intelligentsia, as evidenced by the awards, honors and distinctions that he has received both in the Canary Islands and nationally.

Regarding the recognition of Nelson Díaz Frías, his intense research career on the history and genealogy of the south of Tenerife and his native Vilaflor de Chasna region was highlighted, being an indispensable and rigorous reference source in this field on the island.

Thus, it is a distinction for his more than thirty years of research, for the generous and selfless work he has carried out in parallel to his professional career in the judicial field.

The Cabildo has also awarded the Gold Medal to María Dolores Pelayo, for her work in defense of the rights and freedoms of women, always committed to gender issues.

GENDER EQUALITY

The plenary agreement highlighted, among other achievements, her essential contribution to achieving gender equality in the law that recognized the right to divorce, in which she acted as rapporteur legislator.

The profound modifications of the Civil Code in matters of family and inheritance to equalize the rights between men and women were also the result of their struggle and work.

The Gold Medal has also been awarded to the Accredited Consular Corps in Santa Cruz de Tenerife for the commendable function it carries out on the island, contributing in its long history to fostering commercial, cultural and social relations among citizens and promoting friendly relations. between the different countries and the population of Tenerife.

In 2023, the accredited Consular Corps in Santa Cruz de Tenerife is made up of 35 consuls and vice-consuls.

In addition, Alonso Fernández del Castillo y Machado has been granted the status of Favorite Son, for the work carried out in the Cabildo when he held the position of general secretary.

REF APPROVAL

During the ceremony, his active participation in the approval of the Canary Islands Economic and Fiscal Regime Law was valued, which he contributed to promoting until its final approval.

Likewise, it had an outstanding participation in the drafting of the regulations and statutes of institutions and organizations in which the Cabildo participated and that contributed to a more agile management to respond to problems in different areas, industrial estates, Insular Water Council, Institute Technological and Renewable Energies, among others.

In the cultural field, his participation in the assumption by the Insular Corporation of the Superior Conservatory of Music and the Tenerife Symphony Orchestra was also decisive.

The event was attended by the acting first vice president, Enrique Arriaga, the acting second vice president, Berta Pérez, and the acting third vice president, Marián Franquet, as well as the general secretary of the island corporation, Domingo Hernández, who read the concession agreement of honorary distinctions, together with other representatives of the insular corporation.

The members of the special commission in charge of the investigation of the file of these distinctions, civilian and military representatives, and relatives of the honorees also attended.

During the development of the ceremony, which took place in the chamber hall of the Auditorio de Tenerife, it was possible to enjoy various musical pieces by the String Duo made up of Johanna Kegel, on cello, and David Ballesteros, on violin.
