The conceptual artist from the Canary Islands Sergius Fitz has surprised the residents of Tenerife with a very special declaration of love to his mother. A large poster near the Mercado Nuestra Señora de África shows a map of Europe proclaiming love from A to B.
The peculiar layout of a two-headed arrow forms a huge heart that encompasses several Nordic countries and part of the Baltic countries. In large letters, it is specified that eThe message is “for mom”making clear the recipient of the love that the work represents.
Sergius Fitz is a concept artist recognized on social media for his creative creations, some of them published on his own Facebook account. instagram (@sergiusfitz.art).
His work ranges from drawings to reinterpretations of familiar icons such as Warhol’s Campbell’s Soup can or Van Gogh’s self-portrait. Some of his works make direct reference to his Canarian origin and express his longing for Canary Islands or distinctive elements of the region.
Nostalgia for Canarian flavors
Although bananas are one of the recurring elements in his work, they are not the only ones. Sergius Fitz also misses flavors and, above all, how Tirma chocolates that any canary in the distance misses.
While her nostalgia for Tenerife is evident in several of her posts, her interests and activism go much further than that.. She participates in movements in defense of LGTBI rights and in the fight against homophobia. In addition, she creates works that reinvent kitsch and features references and graphic jokes related to characters from cult series and movies, ranging from ET until Harry Potter.
