Alternativa Icodense takes its minority government for granted with Javi Sierra as mayor

Alternativa Icodense, the party that won the municipal elections with eight councilors, assumes that it will access the mayoralty of Icod de los Vinos in a minority this Saturday, after the negotiation with the Popular Party failed.

In these weeks, both formations have held six negotiating meetings —the last of them, this Thursday— to try to agree on a government agreement that would add the necessary absolute majority of 11 councilors.

Alternativa Icodense has highlighted the good harmony between both negotiating teams. In those meetings, loyalty, commitment to the municipality and generous dialogue have always prevailed. Although the negotiations have concluded without a government agreement, the PP has told Alternativa Icodense that if there is no other agreement, it will facilitate the government of the most voted list.

After the elections on May 28, Alternativa Icodense went from 5 to 8 councilors, and the Popular Party, headed by Coromoto Yanes, from 1 to 4 councilors, both formations being the only ones in the municipality that have grown in votes and councilors compared to 2019. The formation headed by Javi Sierra, until now opposition leader, is grateful that the PP admitted, from the outset, that the mayoralty was unquestionable for Alternativa Icodense, given the results of the May 28 elections and the will of the Icod citizenship to start a renewed mandate.

Sierra, who asks for a vote in favor of his candidacy or abstention, assumes that the minority government will open, from this Saturday, a new time in the Ciudad del Drago in which dialogue will be essential with all political groups to move forward the transformation agreements that Icod needs, enriching democracy and the participation of all formations with representation in plenary. The plenary session of the constitution of the City Council is convened for this Saturday at 12:00 p.m.
