The Cabildo approves the agreement with Medicine to delay the entrance to class

He council of Tenerife approves the agreement with the Faculty of Health Sciences of the University of La Laguna (ULL) to delay the entrance to class in exchange for financial compensation of Two millions of euros. The acting island president, the socialist Peter Martin, stresses that this agreement will benefit the island’s citizens, to the extent that it “will contribute to improving the quality of education and the training of future health professionals.” The insular Corporation defined in this week’s meeting of the Governing Council, the text that determines a collaboration that will grant a direct subsidy of two million euros to the ULL to carry out investments in equipment and infrastructures in the Faculty of Sciences of the Health with the aim of promoting university teaching and research, as well as knowledge in this field. Its development falls within the General Protocol of Action that the Cabildo de Tenerife and the University of La Laguna signed in August 2020 to establish joint lines of action, in a broad sense, in relation to cooperation, training and advice in those areas that fall within their competence

Among the improvement actions proposed undertake in the collaboration agreement, in accordance with the needs of the Medicine section of the Faculty of Health Sciences, is the drafting of the project for the execution of the works of the new Faculty, whose approximate cost is 1.5 million euros. At the same time, it is intended to inject an investment of 500,000 euros into various projects in which the Faculty is immersed in order to improve teaching and adapt it to the 21st century, increasing the training of future doctors. Specifically, it is proposed to allocate 200,000 euros to provide the Clinical Skills Classroom with infant, maternal and neonatal simulation robots; another 200,000 euros for the acquisition of 10 Digital Anatomy Tables and the remaining 100,000 euros for the purchase of a 3D microscope for use in Anatomy, Histology and Physiology.

The insular president, Pedro Martín, assures that this agreement will benefit the citizens of the island, to the extent that it will contribute to enhancing the quality of education and training of future health professionals. It also stands out that in the same agreement the commitment of the Faculty of Health Sciences for the sustainable development of the island is manifested, its Medicine section having adopted an agreement on March 31, 2023 to adapt the schedules and start from from 10:00 a.m. to teach classes to first, second and third year students, which would result in an improvement in the mobility of TF5. This collaboration agreement will be in force until August 31, 2025, covering the academic years 2023-2024 and 2024-2025, although it can be extended up to a maximum period of four years.
