The Council of Tenerife has been carrying out an emergency intervention since the morning of the day before yesterday, Monday, to repair the pipeline that transports irrigation water between Tágara (Guía de Isora) and Trevejos (Vilaflor de Chasna). The fault was located in the Isorano municipality.
The insular Government informed yesterday that during the afternoon of last Wednesday (day 7) the technicians appreciated a significant decrease in the flow of water that reaches Boca Cascajo, the final point of the route of this pipeline. As a consequence, an analysis of the situation was carried out in order to determine the possible causes.
It was on Thursday morning (the 8th) when the operators located the break in an eight meter long section of pipe, at a point on the route located some 500 meters from the southeast entrance of the Tágara tunnel. As a probable cause, they determined the impact of some rock detached from the slope through which the pipe runs, due to the rains that were recorded in the area during the previous days.as reported by the Cabildo.
The acting Island Councilor for Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries, Javier Parrilla, explained yesterday that “the emergency of the works has been declared due to the importance of this conduction for the municipality of Vilaflor and part of Adeje, Arona and San Miguel.” In this sense, he anticipates that, “according to the report issued by the technical services, the repair work is expected to be completed in fifteen days, given the existing difficulty in accessing the area” in which the pipe break was recorded. .
An aspect that the island councilor highlighted as positive information for the farmers who benefit from the water that it transports this conduction is that “the Trevejos raft is at 75% capacity, with 207,538 cubic meters”for which reason he calls for peace of mind and ensures that this is a “guarantee of supply for irrigation water” in this region of the Island.
the great work
It should be remembered that the most important productive agricultural area of the Island will have 25,000 cubic meters of purified and desalinated water for irrigation once the expansion of the Adeje-Arona treatment plant is completed, with the construction of the Brackish Water Desalination Station (EDAS). . The work, which began in October 2021, It will conclude in the last quarter of this year and its commissioning will triple the flow that this complex now obtains (8,000 cubic meters) by incorporating 16,500 cubic meters of water treated to the irrigation network from San Miguel de Abona to Santiago del Teide.
