In line with what was stated in the plenary session held on September 30, the Minister for Sustainable Development and the Fight against Climate Change, Javier Rodríguez Medina, asked the municipal government to present a technical document that supports his request. “The argument that the Cabildo was transmitted to us is that Arico cannot receive two subsidies for the same concept, but it is not like that,” said the mayor after the meeting. Sebastián Martín explained that “if we were to talk about a subsidy, we would be affirming that the Cabildo gives us aid in the form of an economic amount, but this agreement says that this contribution is not aid, but rather compensation to the municipality and its neighbors for having the Environmental Complex and because of the problems that this entails ».

Martin transmits his intention to resolve “this conflict”, makes clear the willingness of the local government to “do our part” to do so because “we do not care about political acronyms, but about ariqueros, a lot.”

Juan José Armas, the first deputy mayor, affects the negotiating attitude, “but firm in the demand for compensation. Our neighbors have the right to be compensated for bearing the impact of the PIRS on them. Aware that the Environmental Complex “is a very delicate matter”, he assures that “each of the points of the agreement will be treated with complete rigor”.

The second deputy mayor, Andrés Martínez, clarifies that “we must not continue in a situation of blockade.” The councilor emphasizes that “we have a responsibility with Arico and with the Island” and emphasizes that this “is not only a conflict in the municipality, but affects the rest of Tenerife.”

The Councilor for Social Welfare, Pedro Andrés González, claims that «Arico deserves fair treatment, we are a municipality with scarce resources and that compensation is used for many improvements. Without it, we suffocate. ‘

The mayor hopes that next week a meeting will take place with the presence of the president of the Cabildo, absent yesterday due to scheduling reasons. In that meeting, the technical and legal aspects of the agreement of the diseconomies of the Environmental Complex will be discussed and announces that they will attend with the purpose of reaching an agreement in the shortest possible time.
