The organization ensures that more than 8,000 people celebrated San Antonio de Padua yesterday in a tour of the urban area, with 15 floats, 30 cars and folkloric groups.
More than 8,000 peopleaccording to the organization, yesterday took over the town center of the Historic Villa of Granadilla de Abona, which dressed up in locality and tradition to celebrate the XLV edition of the pilgrimage in honor of San Antonio de Padua, one of the oldest pilgrimage events in the region and Tenerife. On this occasion, the procession had 15 floats, 30 cars and numerous folkloric groups.
La Parranda Chasnera sang the central mass of the day. At the end, after 1:30 p.m., Los Herreños with their dance were in charge, as tradition marks, of accompanying San Antonio de Padua outside the temple to live, one more year, this celebration and receive the offerings that , subsequently, they will be distributed by Cáritas among the most needy families in the municipality.
After that moment of the annual program and at that point in the historic center of Granada, the patron saint began a journey in which the pilgrims spent several hours between floats, carts and groups. In the procession, together with the local parish priest, Jesús Pérez Báez, and the acting mayor, José Domingo Regalado, as well as the acting councilor for Culture and Festivals, Eudita Mendoza, in addition to the rest of the municipal Corporation.
Folklore, good gastronomy and a lot of joy toured the main streets of the urban area of Granadilla de Abona, such as Isaac de Vega, San Francisco and El Calvario, until ending in Los Hinojeros Park, where the party continued with a great festival enlivened by the orchestras Tropin, Atlantic de La Gomera, Sabrosa, Grupo Los Ideales and Aparrandados.

Eudita Mendoza thanked the involvement of the groups and the participating floats, as well as the large audience that came to enjoy one of the most important pilgrimages on the Island. The recognition and congratulations are extended to the residents who responded to a great extent to the municipal request and proceeded to decorate facades, balconies and shops, “in addition to dressing our people in tradition.” The Councilor for Fiestas in office also encourages the population to continue to be an active part in the different events scheduled until next Saturday, the 17th.
Crafts Fair
The day also hosted the second day of the Canarian Crafts and Gastronomy Fair, which reached its 33rd edition. More than twenty artisans exhibited and sold their production over the weekend, in the church square. In that forum, the delivery of Granadilla Artesana took place, a recognition that this time fell to Giomar Zurita, for his work in the recovery and conservation of traditional trades.

Tomorrow the name day of San Antonio de Padua is celebrated, with the flowery target (8:30); the mass (11:00 am), which will be sung by the San Antonio de Padua Folk Association and which will include the blessing of the San Antonio bread, which will be distributed at the end of the Eucharist; there will also be bouncy castles, workshops, games and a show for children on Children’s Day (from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.), as well as the institutional concert (8:30 p.m.) that Los Sabandeños will offer at Los Hinojeros Park, in the urban center of Granadilla de Abona.
