Antonio Hernández (PP) maintains the Mayor’s Office of La Guancha thanks to an agreement with the PSOE

Antonio Hernandez (PP) will retain the Mayor’s office the guancha thanks to a pact with the only councilor of the PSOE in the town, Maria Jose Garcia, who will be the first deputy mayor. After days of doubts and pressures, PP and PSOE have taken the step of sealing a government agreement for the next four years. CC, who had chances to govern with the Socialists, remains in opposition.

This agreement has been confirmed this morning by the PSOE with a statement, although the pact was sealed this Thursday afternoon. The Socialists point out that “the Popular Party of La Guancha, the force with the most votes in the northern town in the elections of May 28, has sealed an agreement with the representative of the PSOE to form a government for the next term 2023-2027“.

“The six councilors of the formation that leads Antonio Hernandez (PP) and the head of the PSOE list and sole mayor, Maria Jose Garcia, have closed an agreement designed to provide stability and teamwork, with transparency and coordination. Among the established lines, the objective of successfully face the multiple challenges of the future of the municipality, focused on the completion of a significant number of infrastructures, the modernization of municipal services or the strengthening of social careamong others,” the statement said.

With the agreement reached, Antonio Hernandez will repeat as mayor of La Guancha for the third consecutive term, while María José García will occupy the first tenure of mayor. The municipal government areas will be designated by mutual agreement after the constitution of the new municipal Corporation, next Saturday, June 17. The distribution of areas and powers will be specified “based on the profiles and experiences of each of the councilors, with the aim of materializing the electoral programs designed by the two formations that make up the alliance.”

PP and PSOE set aside their ideological differences and they come together to work on what they consider “a government of stability, centered on people and on the materialization of projects that allow strengthening the path of prosperity and progress that the town deserves.” Similarly, both the PP and the PSOE They highlight their willingness to “join efforts to meet the needs of the municipality and achieve the best results in each and every one of the management areas.”

“Beyond political acronyms and partisan interests”, the PP and PSOE guancho leaders prioritize “transparency and team consensus as the main axes of the government project signed for the coming years.” This agreement has not been very well received by the PP, which was betting on other formulas to co-govern or govern La Guancha in a minority.
