The number two of the Portuense Citizen Assembly (ACP) María Jesús Hernández Méndez resigns “for family reasons” to take office as mayor in the term that begins on the 17th and leaves his position to number three on the list, who was not elected on 28Mthe current mayor of Health, Sports, Consumption, Health and Beaches, Alberto Cabo.
María Jesús Hernández has confirmed that «after reflecting on it, and for family reasons, I see myself in the situation of not continuing as a councilor in the next term. It has not been an easy decision, but representing our city is a task that requires full dedication that now I will not be able to have as I have been doing in this time.
Hernández points out that “in these last four years, as part of the Porto Government as an ACP councilor, I have been able to contribute my bit to improve our city with some achievements of which I feel especially proud, such as the different Alternating Training Plans with he Employment (PFAE), the employment plans, the training provided, the good grade of the transparency index or the improvements in Citizen Participation and New Technologies».
The still councilor for Labor Relations, Employment, Citizen Participation, Participatory Democracy, Transparency, Open Government, Innovation and New Technologies of Puerto de la Cruz points out that she is leaving “calmly”, knowing that her replacement is “in good hands, since my place will be taken by Alberto Cabo, a great partner and a better person.”
The ACP mayor has words of gratitude for “all the people who trusted me, the City Council staff, with whom I have been able to share these years, and all the people who have been part of this intense but rewarding stage in my life. I especially want to thank my colleagues from the ACP, who, even if I do not continue as councilor, will continue to be linked and participate to continue building the city we want from a less public side but with the same enthusiasm. Despite her announcement that she will not continue in the next corporation, for which she was elected, she qualifies that she will continue “working like the first day until the last day of this mandate.”
open negotiation
The negotiation of the local government pact between PSOE and ACP continued yesterday, and everything indicates that the two leftist formations will maintain the agreement they sealed in the 2019-2023 term, although with some modifications given the change in the correlation of forces between both parties. The PSOE has two more councilors (it went from 8 to 10) and the ACP lost one (it went from 3 to 2).
The reissue of the PSOE-ACP pact will also mean the change of more than half of the government team. María Jesús Hernández will not repeat in ACP, and Marco gonzalez (PSOE) only maintains three of the eight councilors that made up its government group in the term that is about to end. The socialists do not repeat Carolina Rodríguez (First Deputy Mayor and Councilor for Institutional Relations, Equality, Tourism Development and Economic Progress), Jonás Santana (Third Deputy Mayor and Councilor for Social Law, Volunteering and Inclusive Policies), Julia Navas (Administrative Concessions and Heritage Management) and Alberto Castilla (Festivities, Historical Heritage, Museum, Public Relations, Protocol and Animal Welfare). Only Flora Perera, Roberto Medina and Noemí Fernández continue.
The new councilors of the Socialist Party in Puerto de la Cruz will be Natalia Afonso Pestana, María de la Macarena García Carrillo, Jesús Reverón Quintero, Daniel González Martín, Enrique José Moll Rubio and Rebeca Toste Barreto.
