‘Cloud’ was born to stop the digital divide in sparsely populated areas

The Council of Tenerife obtains 727,000 euros of state funds to guarantee the financing that promotes the digital transformation of the smallest town halls on the Island. The Cloud project, presented by the Presidency, Finance and Modernization area, will allow local corporations to have an infrastructure to deploy their electronic services safely and with high availability

The objective is to provide the 17 municipalities with less than 20,000 inhabitants with the necessary infrastructure to guarantee their digital transformation and reduce the gap that exists with respect to large cities.

Nube is a system of shared services for the municipalities of Tenerife, financed by the Secretary of State for Policy Territorial within the framework of the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan

The Minister of the Presidency, Finance and Modernization, Berta Pérez, explains that “its implementation will allow municipalities to have an infrastructure, nubetenerife.es, to deploy their electronic services safely and with high availability.” As she announces, the forecast is that within a month the contracting of the infrastructures and services included in the project can be awarded.

economic savings

Berta Pérez adds that “The project will also make it easier for municipalities to save significant costs in the acquisition and maintenance of equipment and personnel necessary to maintain electronic services, in addition to those derived from applying an economy of scale.”

The objective of the Cabildo is that this same project can be expanded in the future to adapt to the needs of the municipalities in a flexible manner, both in relation to the demand for greater capacity and the implementation of new services. There is also the possibility of expanding the project to include municipalities with more than 20,000 inhabitants.

Initially, their participation is limited to 17 municipalities with fewer inhabitants on the Island: Buenavista del Norte, Arafo, Arico, Garachico, Fasnia, La Guancha, La Matanza, El Rosario, San Juan de la Rambla, Santa Úrsula, Santiago del TeideLos Silos, El Tanque, El Sauzal, Tegueste, La Victoria and Vilaflor.

The initiative is part of the actions provided for in the Cabildo’s 2023 Municipal Modernization Plan, which contemplates about twenty projects with city councils to improve the public services that local administrations provide.
