The formation of La Gomera will manage Visocan, Hecansa and Gesplan and various island positions and general directorates of the autonomous community

SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, June 8 (EUROPA PRESS) –

The general secretary of the Gomera Socialist Association (ASG), Casimiro Curbelo, the general secretary of the Canary Islands Coalition (CC), Fernando Clavijo and the president of the PP of the Canary Islands, Manuel Domínguez, have signed this Thursday the government pact that underpins the absolute majority in Parliament with a total of 38 seats.

By virtue of this agreement, the formation of La Gomera will not manage any Ministry, as it did in the last Legislature with the ‘Pact of Las Flores’ when directing Tourism, Industry and Commerce, and now advocates occupying intermediate positions in the Executive.

Thus, Curbelo has advanced that the public companies Visocan, Hecansa and Gesplan will be under the control of ASG and will also be in charge of health, education and ports on the “Colombian island” and some general directorates such as Fisheries, Highways or Educational Infrastructures.

It has also detailed that they will be present in the Planning and Demographic Challenge area and in the Canary Islands Government delegation in Madrid.

Curbelo has minimized the value of managing a Ministry and has stressed that the important thing is to have a “clear conscience” to “respond effectively” to the work that is carried out in the different departments of the Executive.

Along these lines, he has defended the participation of his group in the “defense of the Canary Islands” and that work be carried out “clearly” and with public officials who have a “vocation” and the “adequate profiles” given that in this new Legislature a “stage of some complexity” because the effects of the war in Ukraine and inflation continue and there could be “possible cuts” if the European Union (EU) recovers the austerity rules.

He has assessed that ASG will help give “stability” to the governance of the autonomous community and has defended that supporting this pact is the “best decision” to meet the demands of citizens.

Likewise, he has highlighted the “coherence” of his formation when signing this pact, recalling how in 2016, after the departure of the PSOE from the autonomous government, together with the PP they guaranteed the governability of the islands.

Apart from the areas that ASG is going to manage, it has indicated that it will also work on the “consolidation” of the achievements achieved on the island in the last legislature, the ‘Gomera 36 Strategy’ for sustainability signed with the Government of the Canary Islands and the Central government in May.

THE ELECTORAL SYSTEM IS NOT TOUCHED, WARNS CURBELO

Curbelo has also assessed that there will be improvements in the taxation of the ‘green islands’ and also in connectivity and security, and has taken advantage of his presence before journalists to vindicate the current electoral system, which is “extraordinary and balanced” because it serves the territories smallest in the archipelago.

“They have to understand it”, he affirmed in reference to the PSOE, which has questioned the system as a result of the electoral victory of Ángel Víctor Torres and his impossibility of closing government pacts.

Clavijo has described the pact as that of “equal islands”, without budgetary or resource “discrimination” due to the size of the islands and with the same rights for citizens “regardless of where they live.”

He has stressed that the “challenge” of the new Government will be to have growth “at the same speed” on all the islands and for this, as was done with AHI, an agreement is signed with ASG with “concrete and clear commitments” .

In addition, he has underlined the collaboration and good work carried out together with ASG in the ninth legislature in promoting the Canary Islands Development Fund (FDCAN).

Domínguez, for his part, has indicated that the pact supports “a single project and a single program” that has the objective of “improving the lives of the Canaries” and for this he has thanked the “stability” provided by Curbelo’s training.
