The long-awaited direct flight between Tenerife and New York begins this weekend

This weekend the long-awaited flight will begin straight that will unite Tenerife and New York. The renowned American airline United Airlines will offer a service that will be available for four months, from June 9 to September 27.

In total, 13,400 seats will be offered on this direct route, which will connect the Newark Liberty International Airport, United Stateswith the aerodrome of the south of the tenerife island. The flights will operate three times a week in each direction: Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays from the United States, and Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays from the island. The duration of the flight will be approximately six hours and fifty minutes, using a B757-200 aircraft with a capacity for 169 passengers, including 16 Polaris class seats and 153 economy class seats.

North American market

The acting president of the Council of Tenerife, Pedro Martín, highlights the importance of this connection, pointing out that “after last year’s excellent occupancy records, close to 90%, this flight is consolidated”. In addition, Martín anticipates that, if the good results are repeated this year, it is expected that the flight can have an annual schedule from 2024.

Regarding the North American market, last year there was a significant increase in the number of travelers from the United States, reaching a total of 26,507 visitors, which represents 55% more than in 2019, before the pandemic. Much of this growth is attributed to the non-stop flight operated by United Airlines between June and September. During the first four months of 2023, Tenerife received 11,138 American travelers, continuing with a steady growth rate.

In addition, confirmation of a new direct flight from the east coast of Canada is expected in the coming months, which would further strengthen the connection with North America. In this sense, Turismo de Tenerife has been working to expand the options of direct flights and promote the destination in different international fairs.

Growth of tourists from Canada

He Tenerife goal It is establishing itself as an attractive destination for travelers from North America, and there has been significant growth in the number of visitors from Canada. During the first four months of 2023, the island welcomed 2,307 Canadian travelers, representing an increase of almost 75%. These travelers arrived via connecting flights from cities such as Madrid, London, Lisbon or Casablanca, using airlines that connect with different points of origin in North America.

In line with this trend, Tenerife has become a prominent destination in the offers of brands such as Apple Vacations, Funjet Vacations, Travel Impressions and United Vacations, all belonging to the renowned American tourism group Apple Leisure Group Vacations. These offers are marketed directly through travel agencies in the United States. Likewise, the island is also promoted as a destination by BeachBound, another tour operator integrated into Apple Leisure Group Vacations.

With the start of this direct flight between Tenerife and New York, the island is positioned as a point of reference for travelers who wish to enjoy its spectacular landscapes, beaches and its warm hospitality.
