SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, June 7 (EUROPA PRESS) –

The passage of the storm ‘Óscar’ through the Canary Islands has so far left a total of ten flight cancellations and nine diversions due to adverse weather, Aena sources inform Europa Press.

Specifically, the cancellations have occurred in La Palma (six), La Gomera and El Hierro, with two each respectively.

As for the diversions, there have been seven in La Palma –five have returned to Tenerife North, one to Tenerife South and another from Germany has landed in Tenerife South–; one in El Hierro, which returned to Tenerife North and another in Tenerife North that came from Malaga and was diverted to Tenerife South.

The Canary Islands is being the rainiest, hottest and windiest autonomous community in all of Spain this Wednesday due to the passage of the storm ‘Óscar’, according to data from the State Meteorological Agency (Aemet).

Of the ten windiest points in Spain today, eight have been located in the Canary Islands. Until 2:00 p.m., the weather station that Aemet has installed in Las Cañadas del Teide had registered wind gusts of up to 93 km/h, and in Alto Igualero, in Vallehermoso, up to 92 km/h.

The wind has also been felt strongly in Izaña (84 km/h); in Sabinosa, in La Frontera (82 km/h); in Arure (76 km/h); at the San Andrés station, in Valverde (69 km/h); at the Suerte Alta station, in Agaete (69 km/h); and in La Aldea (68 km/h).

If the maximum speed is taken into account, it is necessary to highlight the 72 km/h registered in Alto Igualero; 59 km/h in Izaña; the 46 km/h in the Roque de los Muchachos; 45 km/h in Güímar and Arure; and 44 km/h at the Gran Canaria Airport.

With regard to rain, eight of the ten rainiest points today, Wednesday, have also been on the islands. Thus, in El Pinar 61.8 liters per square meter (mm) have been recorded; in El Paso, 48.6mm; in Las Cañadas, 31.6 mm; in Alto Igualero, 29.4 mm; in Tazacorte, 29.4 mm; in the Roque de los Muchachos, 26.2 mm; in San Andres, 24.2 mm; and in Tijarafe, 22.8 mm.

The squall ‘Óscar’ has also been accompanied by high temperatures and an intense sensation of embarrassment, as reflected in the Aemet data, since in seven of its stations on the Islands the thermometers have exceeded 30 degrees.

This is the case of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, where maximum temperatures of 30.6 degrees have been recorded; as well as in La Oliva (30.2ºC); Fuerteventura Airport (30ºC); La Graciosa (29ºC); Agaete (28.5ºC); The Village of San Nicolás (28.5ºC); and Teror (28.5ºC).
