PSOE and PP get closer in Granadilla de Abona

The swords are still high in Granadilla de Abona, where several gangs are negotiating to guarantee the governance of the municipality in the next four years.
In addition to the open official talks between the Canary Islands Coalition and the Popular Party, in line with the agreements already closed in the Cabildo and in municipalities such as Santa Cruz, Guía de Isora and Arona, the PSOE has been exploring a government alliance with the PP for days through contacts that take place with “discretion and tranquility”, recognize socialist sources, aware of the strategic value of the granadilla consistory for the PSOE, especially after losing two key fiefdoms such as Arona and Guía de Isora, where they had governed for 8 and 28 years consecutive, respectively.
The socialist weakening on the map of the local administrations of the region (although it must not be forgotten that it was the party with the most votes in seven of the nine municipalities) forces the PSOE to put all the meat on the grill to regain power in the second municipality with the largest population in the South, after losing it in 2017 due to a motion of censure presented by nationalists and popular. The CC leadership is working to prevent socialist aspirations from prospering at all costs.
The 11 councilors of the PSOE and the two of the PP would add 13 seats in the plenary hall, a figure that marks the absolute majority and would boost Jennifer Miranda to the Mayor’s Office, which in that case would become the second councilor in the history of the municipality after Carmen Nieves Gaspar (CC).
For their part, sources from the Canary Islands Coalition have recognized that the negotiations to retain the Mayor’s Office “take time” -some say that until the 17th, the date on which the new local corporations will be established, anything can happen-, while that the Popular Party is silent.

THE PP IS KEY
The electoral results have configured a devilish panorama in Granadilla de Abona, a municipality in which the PSOE and CC are like oil and water. While the PP, despite losing a councilor and subtracting 489 votes compared to previous results, has assumed the role of key political force in deciding governance, it should not be forgotten that a fourth party, Vox, obtained two representatives in the City Council , although CC drew a red line during the electoral campaign with respect to Vox and ruled out any pact with the formation of Santiago Abascal.
The PSOE won the elections in Granadilla de Abona by receiving the support of 6,348 voters (11 councilors), followed by the Canary Islands Coalition, with 5,891 votes (10 councilors), Partido Popular, with 1,535 votes (2 councilors) and Vox, with 1,190 ballots. (2 councillors). Once again, more people abstained than voted (51.81%).
The electoral board led by Jennifer Miranda achieved 916 more votes and 3 more representatives (11) than in 2019, while the list of José Domingo Regalado (CC), the current acting mayor, who has governed the municipality together with the PP since 2017, achieved 1,047 more votes and two new acts regarding the last elections (10).
It must be remembered that, given the population growth experienced by this southern municipality, the Granada corporation has increased the number of councilors from 21 to 25, who will take possession of their minutes on Saturday the 17th, at 11 in the morning.
