SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, June 4 (EUROPA PRESS) –

The JSP dairy company and the Los Compadres bakery, two family businesses with more than half a century of history in the Canary Islands, are facing their last steps prior to liquidation with the auction of all their assets, immersed in bankruptcy proceedings that have led both to sell possessions on several islands before disappearing, as reported by Trademat Subastas.

Specifically, JSP is auctioning two industrial buildings in Candelaria and another in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria until June 8, as well as two docks in the port of Lanzarote. For its part, Los Compadres, which already auctioned its movable assets in March, is now auctioning real estate in a second round in a staggered manner between June 9 and July 11. All these auctions are open to both individuals and professionals on the Trademat Auctions website (www.subastastrademat.com).

Founded in 1964 by José Sánchez Peñate, JSP was one of the most widespread food companies throughout the Canary Islands. Dedicated mainly to dairy products under the Celgán and Millac brands, and to coffees, infusions and meat packages under the JSP acronym, the company was present in more than 7,000 points of sale and also produced private label products for different supermarkets.

JSP came to have more than a thousand workers between Gran Canaria and Tenerife, and had offices in Seville and Madrid. Now he is auctioning off his two warehouses in Candelaria, where he manufactured dairy products, and another in Las Palmas, dedicated to coffee and bakery products. Two piers in Lanzarote, owned by the company, join the auction.

After years of prosperity in which JSP came to invoice 125 million euros in 2008, it accumulated successive years with economic losses and rescue attempts, which led the company to enter bankruptcy in 2021. In June 2022, with With production almost stopped and its presence in the market reduced to practically zero, an unsuccessful attempt was made to find a buyer for the company’s production units, with the aim of maintaining as many jobs as possible.

PIONEER IN THE SALE OF SLICED BREAD.

Los Compadres, established in 1966 by Arturo Alfonso, began its liquidation in 2021. For this bakery, a pioneer in the sale of sliced bread, the problems began after the death of its founder in 2010. The assets of 21 million euros with the that the company had was sold to pay the payroll, a situation that could only be maintained until 2019, when the company ended up entering insolvency.

With part of the workforce on strike due to the accumulation of months without pay, an attempt was made to seek liquidity with the sale of the main warehouse at the beginning of 2020, but the arrival of the pandemic ended up completely paralyzing the activity and frustrating all the negotiations.

After an unsuccessful attempt to sell all its assets by balloon and the separate sale of movable assets, the company is now auctioning off its properties in the Canary Islands. In Tenerife, a chalet, a garage, an apartment, an office, a store, a plot of land, an industrial warehouse and a concession in the port of Los Gigantes are offered. Another location in Fuerteventura is also available to accept bids. In addition, Los Compadres’ own trademark is also among the items on offer.
