Public Health maintains water consumption restrictions in nine municipalities

The General Directorate of Public Health of the Government of the Canary Islands It maintains active notices for restrictions on water consumption throughout La Guancha and in areas of another 8 municipalities in the north of the island. Excess fluoride is once again a problem in parts of Icod de los Vinos, San Juan de la Rambla, Buenavista del Norte, El Tanque, La Victoria and La Matanza de Acentejo; in Cross port An increasingly limited problem persists due to an excess of nitrates in Guacimara and Punta Brava, which only affects pregnant women and children under 3 years of age, and in Los Silos, specifically in La Caleta, there is another restriction due to non-compliance in a municipal warehouse.

Excess fluoride is still a problem in supply areas of six northern municipalities, despite the efforts of recent years. In La Matanza de Acentejo, these excessive levels of fluoride, which can stain teeth, is focused on children under 8 years of age, who should not use tap water to drink or eat food prepared with it in the Cruz del Camino areas , El Pirul, El Reventón, La Vica and part of San Antonio and San Cristóbal. In La Victoria, the restriction due to excess fluoride is also only for children under 8 years of age who reside in the La Vera-Carril and Los Altos-Arroyos areas.

San Juan de la Rambla

In San Juan de la Rambla, minors of this age should not consume tap water in Lomo Guanche, San José, Los Quevedos, El Rosario, La Vera, Las Rosas and Fuente del Bardo. The deposits affected are those of Aquilino, La Pascuala, La Peña and Los Cuchillos, where they have also had turbidity problems, according to the information on Water Restrictions for Human Consumption published on the Public Health website. In this town, new analyzes are also awaiting to determine whether the radioactivity detected in the water from the Aquilino reservoir in February and April forces the establishment of new restrictions or not in the coming weeks.

Icod de los Vinos has a restriction in force due to excess fluoride that affects the entire population of La Florida, La Vega, Mirabal Alto, El Molledo, Las Abiertas, La Vega, Penichet, Santa Bárbara, Fuente La Vega, Cruz del Camino , Los Piquetes, Cueva del Viento, Llanito Perera, La Patita and Lomo Las Lajas. For children under 8 years of age, this recommendation not to consume tap water extends to the town of Icod, San Felipe and Playa de San Marcos.

San Jose de los Llanos and Teno

No resident of San José de los Llanos, in El Tanque, should drink tap water or cook with it due to the high amount of fluoride. The same occurs in Teno, where there have also been episodes of turbidity, and Las Portelas, in the town of Buenavista del Norte. In this municipality, children under 8 years of age should not consume it in Las Canteras and part of the town.

In Puerto de la Cruz, the restriction due to excess nitrates, only valid for pregnant women and children under 3 years of ageCurrently, it has been reduced to Punta Brava and the Guacimara Urbanization.

Due to breaches in the supply facilities, this regional department warns of the existence of restrictions on the use of water for human consumption in the Redondo and Pino Valois reservoirs, in Icod de los Vinos; at the San José de los Llanos and Ruigómez treatment facilities, in El Tanque, and at the La Caleta reservoir, in the municipality of Los Silos.

La Guancha has restricted the consumption of water from the public network to the entire population since last Wednesday, due to the obligation to use untreated water at the Cruz de Tarifes desalination plant due to the drop in the levels of the headwater tanks. This restriction will last at least a month, as reported to EL DÍA by the guancho mayor in office, Antonio Hernández (PP).
